Rotherham-based glass specialist Solaglas Windowcare has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of Chris Furnell as its first head of information technology. The company provides window and frame repair and replacement for direct insurers and intermediaries such as RBS Insurance, Fortis, E-sure, Halifax, Groupama and Zurich. In 2006 its turnover was £23.5m and volumes of business from the insurance sector rose by 14% compared with the previous year. Chris Furnell said: "This is an exciting time to join the company and I’m thrilled to be working alongside some of the most dedicated, resourceful people I have ever met." Managing director Ian Davy added: “I am delighted that Chris has joined us at this key stage in our expansion. He is an excellent IT professional with a track record in the development of technology infrastructures that support growth and enterprise. "He will provide us with a world-class information service to all levels of the company and keep us ahead of the competition through the implementation of new technology." Earlier this year the firm was named as a finalist in the British Insurance Awards for its innovative use of mobile technology by its engineers when carrying out surveys.
