News: Work starts on £9m Rotherham hotel

By

Specialist hotel developer Heritage London & Hanover Group has begun the construction of its 130-room Radisson Park Inn at the 285-acre Waterfront development in Rotherham. The hotel is a key feature of the £130m Waterfront development at Manvers by TCN UK which also incorporates 800 lakeside houses and apartments, commercial space, a boating lake and golf course. Planners from Rotherham Council gave the scheme the green light earlier this year, prompting contractors Speymill Contracts to begin work on site. Foundations for the £9m development are now being laid, and completion is scheduled for summer 2009. Stephen Holme, a director of TCN UK said: "We are very happy to have got off to such a good start with the hotel. The development will provide vital facilities which will, in turn, help us to kick-start some of the commercial elements of the Waterfront regeneration scheme." David Jason, MD, Heritage London & Hanover (HLH) comments: "We are delighted and excited to be involved in the Waterfront regeneration scheme and believe that the Radisson Park Inn Hotel will not only compliment this development but add to the overall prestige and attraction of this scheme. "The Park Inn Hotel Rotherham will comprise 130 bedrooms, meeting rooms, conference space and leisure together with a qualify bar and an international restaurant." Andrew Klinkenberg, Investment Manager of Rotherham Investment & Development office, the Metropolitan Borough Council’s regeneration arm, said: "This latest development shows the continuing attraction of Rotherham to investors. The Radisson Park Inn will join a growing list of international names, including Next and Boeing, demonstrating the borough’s appeal as a world-class destination. The hotel is ideally situated to provide an invaluable resource for the local area and the surrounding business and leisure developments."
