News: Leger buys fellow Rotherham travel firm

By

The Business Desk reports that Leger Holidays has acquired fellow Rotherham travel firm Consort Travel for an undisclosed sum. Based at Canklow, Leger is the UK’s biggest provider of European coach holidays whilst Consort also operates coach tours from their Wickersley base. Leger has a turnover of around £30m while Consort has sales of more than £3m. Huw Williams, marketing director at Leger Holidays, told The Business Desk: "There are many similarities between the two businesses, not least the range and type of holidays we both provide. "For us this represents the ideal acquisition scenario whereby we can expand our market share significantly while minimising the risk of losing any of our core business focus. "Like ours, the Consort Travel brand has 25 years’ great heritage and that’s something we want to maintain and build on so the brand will be retained." Leger Holidays was awarded the title of Best Coach Operator for 2008 by UK travel agents at the national travel industry Globe Awards and is in the running in the Best Overall Small Tour Operator category at the upcoming British Travel Awards.
