News: Rotherham spreads the word

By

Thousands of people across the borough have a chance over the next few months to air their views and learn more about Rotherham’s changing landscape at a series of Renaissance Roadshows running right through until February 2009. The roadshows, being held at a wide range of venues, covering supermarkets, leisure centres, libraries and garden centres, turn the spotlight on the town centre and the range of ambitious Renaissance projects. Town centre manager Julie Roberts said: "These positive changes will affect everyone who lives and works in the borough, so we want to involve people at every stage. "We’ve chosen the roadshow venues carefully, extending outside the town centre to take in places such as Dinnington, Maltby and Wickersley, to capture more views and opinions." As well as raising awareness within the borough, members of the Town Centre Management team are flying Rotherham’s flag further afield. For the first time, Rotherham was one of the exhibitors at the annual British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) Conference in Liverpool, which attracted high-profile speakers such as Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy and fashion visionary and founder of Per Una, Next and George at Asda, George Davies. Julie Roberts said: "This gave us the perfect platform to raise our profile within the commercial property sector as well as the chance to talk to agents and developers from across the UK about opportunities available in Rotherham. We all know how difficult the current economic climate is, which means we have to work even harder and smarter at making sure Rotherham has a strong reputation within the commercial and retail sectors."
