The Sheffield Steelers visited Rotherham Town Hall this month to toast the team's succes in becoming the 2009 Elite League champions. Steelers GM Mike O'Connor said: "It was a very kind gesture from all at Rotherham Council, we enjoyed a nice glass of the bubbly and some good conversation with the Council members. There seems to be a great deal of excitement surrounding our move to Rother Valley shortly and the Council members were keen to meet the players and give them their support for our Play Off campaign." Captain Jonathan Phillips said: "It was a welcome break from our duties at the rink and it was also good to meet the people behind our new building, all the guys are looking forward to that. It's nice to know that the Council supports you, it makes you feel part of the community. We hope to bring the play off trophy here soon in a couple of weeks time as well" The Steelers signed up to be part of the massive £350m YES! Project in Rotherham last year. The agreement with developers, Oak Holdings, is for a 25 year lease to become tenants of a planned purpose-built 5,000-seater twin-pad ice rink.
