News: Young entrepreneurs bag the trophies on Rotherham market

By

The Sheffield High School Young Enterprise group "Blooming Elle" bagged a couple of trophies at the recent South Yorkshire Trade Fair. Emma Hillitt, Tayla Furniss, Charlotte Hale, Charlotte Hague and Harriet Hill took part in the first stage of the Young Enterprise competition. Young Enterprise Companies from across the South Yorkshire area sold their goods and services to the general public from 10m until 3pm and there was a wide range of products available including personalised t-shirts, hand made phone and camera covers and re-useable jute shopping bags. The Trade Fair took place at Rotherham Centenary Market and is the first step for Young Enterprise Companies who are hoping for the chance to enter the HSBC Innovation awards later in the year. With their innovative eco-bags they set up a trade stand at Rotherham market and impressed shoppers as well as the judges. They successfully sold over twenty bags and won two prizes for "Best Sales Team" and "Most Innovative Product." The group are already developing their next product, a children’s environmental awareness book featuring "Eco-man." Janet Brumby, Senior Team Manager for Young Enterprise explains "A lot of hard work and preparation has been put into making sure that products are of a high standard and that trade stands attract the attention of passers by. However, selling their products and services to the general public for the first time can be very different to selling in school and to friends and family, and so we are delighted that shoppers stopped and had a look at what the Young Enterprise companies have to offer. The trade fair is an ideal opportunity for our young entrepreneurs to develop their inter-personal skills and confidence, and I think they did a great job!"
