News: Mould tool manufacturer toasts Dormer drill

By

A high-quality mould tools manufacturer is toasting success after using specialist support from Dormer Tools. Ryetools, based in Pickering, North Yorkshire, creates high quality fast cycling plastic injection moulds for a broad range of industries, such as medical devices manufacture, pharmaceutical and food packaging, building products, automotive to consumer goods. The company had designed a complex mould tool for the multiple forming of plastic wine glasses and turned to leading rotary tooling specialists Dormer Tools for advice on improving the machining operation. Chris Hirst, one of Ryetools' senior toolmakers, explained: "Designing and manufacturing mould tools for plastic injection is a highly skilled, complex and competitive business. "Dormer played a small but significant role in helping us overcome a major challenge with one of our machining operations. Dormer's drill now means we are able to work at a feed rate that was three times faster than before." Ben Lodge, Dormer Tools engineer, said: "Quality, consistency and reliability are all important issues to Dormer and the drill has performed in all these respects." The success of the drill in this application has encouraged Ryetools to adopt other Dormer solutions, for example, in tapping operations.
