News: SYIF extend contract with Enterprise Ventures

By

South Yorkshire Investment Fund (SYIF) has awarded an extended management contract to Enterprise Ventures for its entire seedcorn fund.

Enterprise Ventures was originally appointed to co-manage part of the 18 month pilot of the seedcorn fund in early 2007, to focus specifically on investing selectively in South Yorkshire's seed and early stage technology companies.

In the past seven years, Enterprise Ventures, through its three technology funds, has invested £22 million in fifty seed and early stage technology companies.

Mike Bakewell, formerly of Alliance Fund Managers, has been recently recruited by EV to work on the SYIF portfolio and to support Ed French, Enterprise Ventures investment director, in his role as SYIF seedcorn fund manager.

Jonathan Diggines, chief executive of Enterprise Ventures said: "That EV has been awarded sole management of the seedcorn fund is a vindication of the approach EV has taken with the pilot during the past two years. In the current economic climate, it is absolutely essential that investment in technology, at the seed and early stage, is maintained. More than ever before, planting technology investment seeds now will grow the successful businesses of tomorrow."
