By

Rotherham print group, Garnett Dickinson has been highly commended at the BPIF Print Week Excellence Awards 2009.

Garnett Dickinson were shortlisted for the lean manufacturing award which is for improved company performance through the adoption of lean techniques.

The judging process included a half day visit to the Manvers factory from the judges, Graeme Faulkner from Vision in Print and Andrew Dearden, Operations Director from Interflex, who won the Award last year.

The firm just missed out to Newsprinters Knowsley but were commended for involving finance teams in prioritising projects, their customer satisfaction and response system and having one of the most visually managed factories in the UK.

Garnett Dickinson's lean manufacturing journey started in 2006 with planning and productivity improvements generated by the move to the new factory in Manvers with new equipment. It continued in 2007 and was formalised in a lean manufacturing programme early in 2008.
