News: Parkgate welcomes integrated transport plans
Managers at Parkgate Shopping in Rotherham are welcoming the announcement of plans to trial for the first time in the UK an innovative tram train service between the town and Sheffield.
The park's manager Denis Copeland stated that it will deliver major benefits to the town's economy.
"We appreciate that Parkgate Shopping attracts over 70,000 cars a week, and we have been working hard not only to improve the flow of traffic from all directions, but to create a better public transport service to and from the park.
"The integrated tram train project is terrific news for us and provide a real shot in the arm for Rotherham. It will make an important contribution alongside energy and water conservation towards reducing our carbon footprint, making life easier for our customers, and linking us up with the town centre."
John Lewis, Chief Executive of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, added: "The Chamber welcomes any scheme which is looking to increase connectivity in our region. The size of the Rotherham/Sheffield economy closely resembles those in both the Leeds/Bradford and Greater Manchester areas; therefore it is vital that our sub-regional transport infrastructure is always evolving to meet the demands of business. We look forward to being involved in positive and constructive discussions around the tram-train link project."
