News: Honorary doctorate for Chris Rea

Chris Rea, the managing director of Rotherham firm, AESSEAL has received an honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University.

Chris, who has directed AESSEAL during 27 years of continuous growth, praised the university's engineering graduates and said that engineers were essential to the success of his business.

Chris said: "Engineers add all the value of our business, from product development to manufacturing. The rest of us just bask in their reflective glory, so it's great to be here with you today. Thank you."

AESSEAL's precision engineered mechanical seals are found in industry sectors including oil and gas, pharmaceutical, mining, power generation, pulp and paper and food processing. Mechanical seals are even used in hydrofoils and torpedoes.

Since the company's inception in 1979, the business has expanded at a compound rate of more than 20% per annum, with uninterrupted sales and profit growth. AESSEAL now exports to 93 countries worldwide through distributors, joint ventures or wholly-owned subsidiaries.

Earlier this year, AESSEAL director, Gordon Bridge received an honorary degree from the University of Sheffield's Faculty of Social Sciences.
