News: AusAMRC launched in Melbourne
The Australian Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AusAMRC) has been officially launched at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.
In partnership with Boeing, the centre has been established to design and develop ground breaking technologies for aerospace and related manufacturing industries and replicates the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Rotherham.
The new research centre is modelled on the successful partnership between The University of Sheffield and Boeing based on the Advanced Manufacturing Park which has been delivering great value to Boeing and its British partners.
Professor John Beynon, head of the AusAMRC was previously The University of Sheffield's Head of Mechanical Engineering.
Ian Thomas, President Boeing Australia and South Pacific region said: "AusAMRC will blend the best of Australia and the world to produce new competitive advantage."
Senator Kim Carr, Australia's Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research said: "Collaboration between public sector researchers and private industry is crucial in boosting our innovative capacity, yet historically Australia has not fared well.
"This centre is great example of why such public/private collaboration is so important and something that we must vigorously pursue."
