News: Rotherham students set festive design challenge

By

Graphic design students at Rotherham College of Arts & Technology (RCAT) recently took part in a Christmas card design competition for local company, Stafforce Recruitment.

The competition was part of an assessed piece of work and the brief required the students to create a Christmas card design that also incorporated the brand image of the company.

Richard Canetti came first place with a design that cleverly incorporated the company logo and was presented with his prize of £75 by Nick Cragg, Chairman of Stafforce Recruitment.

Nick said: "I believe strongly in introducing young people to business and enterprise as early as possible during their education and personal development.

"This project enabled students to work with an external partner, developing their awareness of how their artistic skills can be applied in a commercial environment to promote products and services."

Cash prizes of £50 and £25 were also awarded to Sophie Goodhand and Adam Hill who came 2nd and 3rd place in the competition.

John Young, College Curriculum Leader for Art and Design thanked Stafforce for giving the students the opportunity work with a real client and added: "The students really enjoyed working with Stafforce and came up with a range of design options for their Christmas card. This course remains successful in preparing young people for the world of work as well as Higher Education."
