News: South Yorkshire transport plan commended

By

South Yorkshire's local transport plan has received national commendation for its financial best practice.

The Department of Transport has praised South Yorkshire for their effective and efficient business plan, which includes the management of finances and prioritisation of schemes.

They have also been commended for how they schedule and manage the funding received from central Government.

Mick Jameson, chair of South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority, said: "It is fantastic that South Yorkshire's local transport plan has been recognised for its commitment to financial best practice, as we work hard to achieve a good management structure.

"The partnership has processes in place to monitor and make efficient decisions, meaning that we can ensure the funding we receive from the central Government is prioritised across the local authorities which make up the Local Transport Plan Partnership."

The funding that the Partnership receives from the central Government is used to deliver an effective transport strategy across South Yorkshire which reduces congestion and improves air quality, road safety and accessibility.

From 2011 the local transport plan will also relate more to supporting economic growth and regeneration, enhancing quality of life and environment, reducing carbon emissions and making transport safer and more secure.
