News: Rotherham contract for Newport Paper
Rotherham Council's kerbside scheme collects paper from 111,000 households through their "Blue Bags" to recycle newspapers, magazines, leaflets, telephone directories, catalogues, white paper, junk mail and shredded paper.
In total the scheme generates 6,000 tonnes of recyclable paper per year.
Newport Paper won the contract through a combination of competitive pricing and partnering with a local Rotherham company, KCM Skips, for the bulking facilities. It is reported that the contract is worth over £500,000 per annum.
The paper will be supplied directly to the second largest recycled paper producer in the world, StoraEnso. Their mill produces paper based on 100% recycled fibre which is then sold to publishers and printers of newspapers and magazines.
Rotherham's Recycling Manager, Dale Otter, said: "The nature of waste management is changing and we need to restrict the amount of waste that is sent to landfill. Newport Paper are helping us by ensuring that our paper is recycled in the most effective manner possible."
