News: Dormer helps Jordanian manufacturer reap rewards

By

A manufacturing specialist in Jordan has secured substantial efficiency savings thanks to the support of Rotherham-based Dormer Tools.

Dormer's export-arm based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park supplied Jordan Advanced Machining Company (JordanAMCO) with their Hydra drill to enable them to machine hundreds of 20.25mm diameter holes in heat exchanger plates used in the petroleum industry.

The versatile solution not only enabled them to drill at various depths and increase productivity, but maintain tight tolerances and strict quality requirements. It has slashed production time on the project by half.

Lloyd Allen, technical consultant for JordanAMCO and originally from Rotherham, said: "With high speed steel tooling it would have taken around 18 hours to complete the job, but with Dormer's Hydra drill it took just eight hours. In this industry time is money, so we were able to make substantial gains.

"It also removed the need for additional operations, such as reaming, resulting in further time and cost savings."

James Butler, Dormer technical engineer, added: "We first made contact with the owners soon after the company was established and our partnership has progressed over the last couple of years.

"Because they are a developing business it is important they are able to complete projects in the most efficient way, while not compromising on quality.

"The Hydra drill is well proven with documented successes in heat exchanger applications around the world. JordanAMCO's experience is one more that we can add to this growing list."

Dormer Tools International supports markets in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Thailand and the Philippines.
