News: MTL Group relocating to Rotherham
Contract manufacturing specialist MTL Group is relocating from its current Sheffield base to a new 300,000 square feet advanced manufacturing facility in Rotherham, which will house the company's state of the art equipment and will provide space for continued expansion.
MTL Group, which laser cuts, bends, machines and fabricates steel to customers' requirements has a global blue-chip customer base including BAE, Caterpillar, Babcock and Renault Truck Defence.
High profile projects include the supply of armoured belly-plates for increasing IED protection on British Army Vehicles in Afghanistan and key structural components for offshore windfarms.
Using state-of-the-art technology, including laser and waterjet cutting, manual & robotic press braking, manual & robotic welding and CNC machining, MTL Group works with some of the highest quality steel materials on the market including quenched and tempered high strength steel.
As one of Europe's largest suppliers of processed armour, the company were awarded a significant contract last month worth more than €4m to supply armour to a German defence and aerospace group.
MTL currently operates from 112,000 sq ft of manufacturing space in Darnall, employing more than 200 skilled staff. The move to Rotherham is set to create 50 jobs as they expand their operations.
Managing Director Dr Henry Shirman said: "By focusing on customer's requirements we have expanded rapidly into new sectors and are now a world-leader supplying across the globe. The strategic investment in the new site will see MTL more than double in size and enable us to deliver a greater range of services to our customers."
Yorkshire Forward is supporting the capital expansion with regional grant funding to support the 50 new jobs which will be created as a result of the move. MTL Group has also worked with Creative Sheffield and Rotherham Investment and Development Office (RiDO) on relocating to the new site.
