News: Dearne valley College host employability week

By

Rotherham companies have been helping students prepare for what is expected of them when applying for jobs.

The Business Training Team from Dearne Valley College (DVC) hosted an Employability Week and various activities took place including an Employers Question Time panel where local employers were invited to answer questions from students about employment.

Students heard first hand what employers look for in applicants CV's and picked up hints and tips for when applying for jobs. Employers included Park Inn Hotel, Bramall Construction, Dearne Valley College, Rotherham Youth Services, and Hays Recruitment.

CV writing skills workshops, job clubs, mock interviews and tips for filling in job application forms were also available for youngsters.

A number of agencies were also at the Wath based college including Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR) who promoted their initiative "Meet Your Match" where they match students interested in volunteering with companies and organisations.

Sessions on further and Higher Education (HE) were also arranged with the college's own Career Advisors to discuss progression routes.

Kaye Williams, DVC Business Development Manager said: "Employability Week aimed to help our students be aware of what employers look for when recruiting. The sessions will have hopefully prepared them for when they start applying for jobs.

"I would like to thank the employers for taking the time out to spend time with our students and share their expertise."
