News: Rotherham BSF projects stopped

By

Plans for significant new construction projects at eight Rotherham schools have been affected by the Government's overhaul of capital investment in England's schools.

£98m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) projects at Abbey SEN, Aston, Hilltop SEN, Milton, Oakwood, St Pius and Swinton have been stopped and the proposals for Maltby Academy are for discussion.

The initial stage of the BSF project in Rotherham was given the green light by the previous government in 2009 and would have seen new school buildings created for five secondary schools including Aston, Maltby, Oakwood, Swinton and St Pius.

Construction was due to start in 2011, with an anticipated completion date in 2013.

It was expected that Rotherham would receive around £170m from the government for learning projects at 24 secondary, primary and special schools.

The Government is launching a comprehensive review of all capital investment in schools, early years, colleges and sixth forms that will guide future spending decisions.
