News: Tool retailer protects shop staff with Identicom
Leading tool manufacturer, Hilti has chosen to protect its employees from workplace incidents through the use of identicom lone worker protection from Rotherham company, Connexion2.
Hilti provides leading-edge technology to the global construction industry and realised that lone workers can be equally vulnerable when working alone in a retail environment although the company has "under the counter" panic buttons.
Designed to look like a normal ID badge, the Identicom system allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message. Hilti now has 39 Identicom units, with 25 being used by personnel working in its 21 stores and 14, equipped with GPS, for mobile workers who travel from store to store.
It provides an innovative solution to the problems of verbal abuse and physical assault by enabling the shop worker to discreetly summon help at the touch of a button, without breaking eye contact with an aggressor, regardless of where they are and without the expensive of installing a wired infrastructure.
Dased in Dinnington, Connexion2, has successfully been audited and approved against sections 4, 5, & 6 of BS8484, the new British Standard for Lone Worker Device Services. The company's Identicom lone worker device is also the only lone worker device to achieve Association of Police Officers' (ACPO's) "Secured by Design" status due to their unique ID-card form-factor and discreet operation.
Stuart Lamb, National Hilti Centre Manager said: "We looked at other devices on the market but chose Identicom as it is simple to use and is backed by Connexion2's excellent pricing structure and service.
"In addition, the fact that the company and its solutions featuring Identicom, have been audited and approved against BS8484, provides us and our employees with additional reassurance."
Launched in 2005, Identicom is now being used by a wide range of employees including NHS, local authorities, housing associations, charity workers, estate agents, key holders and financial sector professionals.
