News: SoloProtect open new headquarters

SoloProtect (formerly Connexion2), the company that uses innovative technology solutions and associated services to improve the safety and productivity of lone workers, has officially opened its new headquarters.

Moving from Dinnington in Rotherham to Tinsley in Sheffield, the growing firm has established an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) at the new HQ - Suzy Lamplugh House.

The firm was launched in 2003, backed by investors including the South Yorkshire Investment Fund, and has grown to around 60 staff. It developed and manufactures Identicom, which is now the UK's most widely deployed dedicated lone worker device.

The business was acquired by the US leading emergency communications company, Kings III of America, in 2013.

The new HQ is part of a planned expansion in the UK, combined with established lone worker operations in the USA and a burgeoning presence in mainland Europe.

Joining SoloProtect at the opening, were Clive Betts MP for Sheffield South East, Sir Keith Povey, President BSIA, and Rachel Griffin, Director of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

The day featured a range of industry presentations to guests, lunch and networking, plus a full guided tour of SoloProtect's brand new ARC facility.

Designed to look like a normal ID badge, the Identicom system allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message. It is part of the lone worker solution SoloProtect, which includes the device, 24/7 manned monitoring, SIM card, mobile network usage, training, inclusive billing and monthly reporting.

Once an alert has been raised this then goes through to an approved ARC where a dedicated member of the lone worker team can listen into and assess the situation, and escalate to police if necessary.

The ARC will begin handling SoloProtect customer "red alerts" from 2016 and will imminently be audited in order to be the first dedicated Lone Worker ARC to receive accreditation against BS 8591 and the European Standard EN 50518 (both standards relate to ARCs).

The building is named after Suzy Lamplugh and SoloProtect's nominated charity is the Suzy Lamplugh Trust. Craig Swallow developed the idea for the Identicom after attending a Suzy Lamplugh Trust event about personal safety in 2002.

SoloProtect and the Suzy Lamplugh Trust officially announced a new strategic partnership in June 2015. This partnership sees SoloProtect give ongoing support to Suzy Lamplugh Trust part of the new building being made available to the trust to deliver safety training. The opening day also featured a prize draw in aid of the Trust, which managed to raise just under £300.

News: SoloProtect to take on more staff

SoloProtect (formerly Connexion2), the Dinnington company that uses innovative technology solutions and associated services to improve the safety and productivity of lone workers, is taking on more staff, and employees will earn upwards of the living wage.

The company's Identicom system is designed to look like a normal ID badge and allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message. SoloProtect recently announced the development of a brand new, purpose built Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) within a new 10,000 sq ft head office in Sheffield.

The firm was launched in 2003, and was acquired by the US leading emergency communications company, Kings III of America, in 2013. It currently employs around 45 staff, and the move to Vantage Park means the creation of 15 new jobs by Autumn 2015.

From June 2015 all SoloProtect employees will earn upwards of the living wage – in the UK the Living Wage Foundation benchmarks a living wage at £7.85 per hour outside of London, and £9.15 in the Capital. All UK SoloProtect employees will now earn a minimum wage of £11 an hour – significantly above the UK threshold.

Connexion2, the Dinnington company that uses innovative technology solutions and associated services to improve the safety and productivity of lone workers, is to be formally renamed SoloProtect Limited and move to new premises as part of significant expansion in the UK.

The firm was launched in 2003, backed by investors including South Yorkshire Investment Fund, and is based at Carrera Court on the site of the former Dinnington Colliery. Connexion2, which employs around 45 staff, developed and manufactures Identicom, which is now the UKs most widely deployed dedicated lone worker device.

The business was acquired by the US leading emergency communications company, Kings III of America, in 2013.

SoloProtect Limited is planning to expand in the UK, combined with established lone worker operations in the USA and a burgeoning presence in mainland Europe.

Central to plans is the development of a brand new, purpose built Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) within a new 10,000 sq ft head office in Sheffield. The facility, which will be a state of the art ARC, will be the first in the UK to be audited against BS8591, the forthcoming British Standard and the new European standard, EN 50518.

Once operational, all Alarm Receiving Centre support services for UK SoloProtect customers will be provided through the facility.

Designed to look like a normal ID badge, the Identicom system allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message. It is part of the lone worker solution SoloProtect, which includes the device, 24/7 manned monitoring, SIM card, mobile network usage, training, inclusive billing and monthly reporting.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed that SoloProtect's new facility is set to be at the Vantage park development on Sheffield Road (pictured), and being a 24/7 operation, it could lead to a significant increase in staff.

Since it was acquired in 2013, the parent company has launched a SoloProtect US division and European operations have expanded into The Netherlands, Germany and France with a SoloProtect New Zealand division also launching this year.

News: Peoplesafe secures deal with Andrew Page

Andrew Page, one of the UK's largest car parts distributors, is using the market-leading Identicom device via Rotherham-based lone worker experts, Peoplesafe.

Based in Dinnington, Connexion2 developed and manufactures Identicom, which is now the UK's most widely deployed dedicated lone worker device. It is designed to look like a normal ID badge and allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message. Also based at Dinnington, Peoplesafe work in partnership with Connexion2 to provide lone workers with the Identicom to thousands of lone workers in the UK.

Andrew Page, which has its head office in Leeds, has given 100 of its frontline staff special devices that can raise the alarm if they need help.

The devices are being used by staff at the company's main distribution centre at Markham Vale in north Derbyshire and by staff across the company's 114 branches. It is being used by people working at the 100,000 sq ft distribution centre, by branch managers and HGV drivers.

The other product, the Twig Protector, offers the same high level of protection as the Identicom, but looks like a mobile phone. It has a man-down capability, which means it sets off an alarm if the user falls over. Both devices link to Peoplesafe's 24-hour monitoring centre.

The Dinnington firm developed and manufactures Identicom, which is now the UK's most widely deployed dedicated lone worker device with with over 135,000 in circulation, and a market share of 80%. Clients inlcude NHS, BSkyb, Domino's Pizza, Travelodge and a number of housing associations and local authorities.

A unique communication device, Identicom is designed to look like a normal ID badge but allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message. Highly trained staff at the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) can monitor and listen into a situation, escalating directly to the emergency services if necessary. GPS technology fitted into the device can also help locate a lone worker.

Sovereign Housing Association, which was originally established as West Berkshire Housing Association in 1989, currently provide homes for more than 80,000 people in the South and Southwest of England. Employees including anti-social behaviour officers, housing support workers and housing officers use Connexion2's innovative 8 series device which allows two-way audio and remote software updates to maximise efficiency. Domino's Pizza UK and Ireland Ltd is using the market-leading Identicom device from Rotherham-based Connexion2 as part of the UK's top pizza delivery company's health and safety initiative to protect staff working alone.

Domino's adopted Identicom through the SoloProtect managed service and have been supplied with 150 Identicom 877 series devices, which are personally issued to all supply chain delivery drivers.

Based in Dinnington, Connexion2 developed and manufactures Identicom, which is now the UK's most widely deployed dedicated lone worker device. It is designed to look like a normal ID badge and allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message.

The Domino's health and safety team chose the Identicom device and SoloProtect solution above other lone worker market solutions after a consultation process with their delivery drivers, who sighted the devices discrete look and ease of use as major draws.

Shaun Hobbs, transport planning assistant at Domino's, said: "As a driver delivering to our stores at all times of the day and night, you can sometimes encounter situations that can leave you feeling isolated and alone.

"The Identicom gives us peace of mind that if a situation does arise there is always someone there ready to listen, monitoring our safety and wellbeing, and escalating any situation to the emergency services as appropriate."

Domino's, which has over 860 stores mainly in the UK, is now consulting with its franchise community to see how the Identicom device will assist with the safety of their delivery drivers.

Connexion2, which employs around 30 staff at Dinnington, developed and manufactures Identicom, which is now the UK's most widely deployed dedicated lone worker device with with over 120,000 in circulation, and a market share of 80%.

A unique communication device, Identicom is designed to look like a normal ID badge but allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message.

Housing Association, Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) has signed a three-year contract to protect its lone workers with the award-winning device. CCG provides nearly 6,300 affordable homes and services to its tenants. Employing over 280 staff, over 100 of which are lone workers, management reviewed a number of devices and solutions to help protect these workers and purchased over 120 Identicom devices through the SoloProtect solution.

Reading based Raglan Housing has purchased 70 of Identicom lone worker devices to help protect over 100 lone workers. Raglan Housing owns and manages over 12,000 homes in almost 100 local authorities in England. The organisation addresses a variety of housing needs in city, urban and rural areas, continuing their commitment to housing for disabled people and a range of supported housing schemes, including sheltered housing and refuges to vulnerable people.

The SoloProtect solution managed by Connexion2 includes the Identicom device and also 24/7 manned monitoring, SIM card and mobile network usage, training and monthly reporting as standard.

The devices include features such as the ability to discreetly raise a "Red Alert" if a user feels their safety has been compromised through a single button press. The "Man Down" feature can automatically raise an alert if the lone worker suffers a slip, trip or fall.

David Hall, regional director at Raglan Housing, said: "The Identicom lone worker device was chosen after a short and successful trial with SoloProtect. News: Connexion2 tracking Run Geordie Run across Australia

Innovative products from Rotherham-based Connexion2 are tracking ultra-marathon runner, Mark Allison as he attempts to run 2,600 miles across Australia in 70 days.

The Dinnington firm is the developer and manufacturer of the award-winning Identicom system that is designed to look like a normal ID badge but allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message.

Mark aka "Run Geordie Run" set off from Perth this week in a bid to raise £50,000 for the Children's Foundation and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. It follows from his amazing 3,100 miles run across America in 100 days in 2011 that raised £100,000 for charity. In 2007 he ran from John O'Groats to Lands End.

To complete his new challenge he will have to run an average 41 miles a day during the Australian summer through very difficult terrain including the infamously arid Nullarbor Plain - which is considered one of the most hostile environments on Earth.

Connexion2, also a corporate sponsor of Run Geordie Run, has supplied an Identicom device to assist both Mark's personal safety and communication whilst undertaking his challenge.

During the challenge Connexion2's Australian partner, GSS Combined Alarm Services, which markets Identicom through it's SafeTCard Solutions brand, will monitor the Identicom units from its Monitoring Station located in Brisbane.

The device has 3G connectivity meaning that it will work in the Australian outback allowing Mark to raise an alarm if required, but also to allow his progress to be mapped via GPS location updates and subsequently shared to his followers.

Identicom's "Man Down" has already been called in to action, but thankfully it was due to Mark pulling the cord on the device by accident. The false alarm proved the technology works. An alert and phone call was made from the device to Connexion2's call centre who could hear that Mark was OK and his support team were given an update on the situation.

Connexion2, the Rotherham company that uses innovative technology solutions and associated services to improve the safety and productivity of lone workers, has appointed Andrew Smith as a configuration and test operator.

Andrew, who lives in Rotherham and comes to his new post with support of recruitment and retention specialist Benchmark, graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a 2:1 degree in Information Management before working in customer services and then pursuing a career in IT.

He worked for First Line technical support before making the move to Connexion2.

Rotherham-based Connexion2 has secured a contract with The Calico Group, a leading housing group in East Lancashire, to provide its award-winning and ACPO accredited Identicom lone worker device.

Based in Dinnington, Connexion2 uses innovative technology solutions and associated services to improve the safety and productivity of lone workers. It developed and manufactures Identicom, which is now the UKs most widely deployed dedicated lone worker device.

Connexion2 has supplied a total of 150 Identicom devices to Calico including a number of units with "Man Down" detection, a motion sensor which raises the alarm if the Identicom is immobilised or subject to an impact. Other features of the system, that is designed to look like a normal ID badge, allow lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message.

Calico Homes manages 4,500 homes across Lancashire; Calico Enterprise works with other organisations to deliver a range of projects across North West England; East Lancashire Women’s Rescue provides services for victims of domestic violence and abuse and Ring Stones, a new company, undertakes maintenance and house building projects.

A wide range of front-line staff including Neighbourhood Officers, Float Support Officers and Home Support Officers use the standard Identicom units whilst those working in more isolated environments such as plumbers, gas engineers and carpenters will be equipped with Identicom with "Man Down" detection.

Kerry Tattersall, health and safety manager at Calico, said: "We invited six companies to pitch for the business and then short listed two companies' devices to trial. The staff thought the Identicom device was fabulous and said it was a million times better than their previous system. All of the lone working staff now love the Identicom device and think it is brilliant."

The already multi-award winning device has recently been shortlisted for two Security Excellence Awards in the Best Deployment of Lone Worker Technology category. The entries were based on the contracts with Britain's largest operator of digital television, BSkyB, and one of Aylesbury's leading social housing providers, Vale of Aylesbury Housing.

A unique communication device, Identicom offers discreet wear and comprehensive protection to a lone working user.

Connexion2 will retain its existing trading name and its SoloProtect brand-presence throughout the United Kingdom. Kings IIIs acquisition will help facilitate the further development of a number of key European & Asian markets as well as home US and Canadian markets, also using the SoloProtect brand.

At IFSEC International 2013, Connexion2 will be exhibiting the enhanced functionality of both the Identicom 877c, the first dedicated lone worker device to feature a camera function, and a dramatically improved Identicom mobile smart-phone application.

Both allow lone workers to share information to assist ancillary activities when working remotely. This includes uploading a picture of a point of interest to the community's platform, tagging a specific risk or location, or visually reporting on the progress of current operation.

The camera is an addition to other features which include two-way audio, GPS and "Man Down" detection, which automatically sends a "Red Alert" in the event of a user being incapacitated due to a slip, trip or fall.

Rotherham-based Connexion2 has reached a milestone following continued business with Family Mosiac, a national provider of good quality, affordable homes to rent and buy.

The Dinnington firm is the developer and manufacturer of the award-winning Identicom system that is designed to look like a normal ID badge but allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message.

Family Mosaic has been a customer of Connexion2's Identicom and its best of breed protection service, SoloProtect, for over four years. Connexion2 was awarded a new contract through a robust and competitive tender process in May 2012.

Family Mosaic provides homes, housing services, care and support and sheltered schemes to around 45,000 people in 20,000 homes. The Housing Association also provides a range of support services to tenants and vulnerable adults including those with mental health problems.

Family Mosaic wanted to continue to ensure that its staff had the ability to assess risk and discreetly raise an alarm if necessary when working alone in the community.

News: Driver's safety improved with Identicom

Smurfit Kappa Recycling has adopted the market leading lone worker security device, Identicom to help its drivers reduce risk as part of their job role.

Developed by Connexion2 in Dinnington, the Identicom system is designed to look like a normal ID badge but allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message. The system supplies to Smurfit Kappa Recycling also includes an automatic "Man Down" alarm and will be in use at the group's paper mills in Birmingham and Kent that reprocess 500,000 tonnes of material each year.

Mark Montgomery, compliance manager at Smurfit Kappa Recycling, said: "Our 70 drivers work shifts, which means that they can start as early as 4.00 a.m. and may not finish until 11.00 p.m. As they may work in the dark, collecting recyclable paper and cardboard from skips and containers, we were conscious that they could be vulnerable if they had an accident, were taken ill or injured. We therefore decided to investigate lone worker solutions that would provide them and us with peace of mind knowing that they could raise the alarm in the unlikely event of something happening to them.

"Initially the drivers were a little suspicious about Identicom tracking their movements but we were quickly able to reassure them that they were in control. We looked at other company's products but Identicom was the most comprehensive with the best coverage and 24/7 availability. The drivers have now got used to Identicom and they appreciate the added security it provides and how easy the unit is to use."

Rotherham-based Connexion2 has secured a contract with Thames Valley Housing Association for their lone worker protection system.

Thames Valley Housing Association is a leading provider of homes in communities across London and South East England with responsibility for 16,500 affordable homes.

Identicom lone worker devices have been provided to a range of employees including accommodation officers, revenue teams and neighbourhood officers. As most personnel work on their own, ether on a regular basis or periodically, the association has extended the use of Identicom to office based staff who work on their own occasionally, late nights and weekends, including directors.

Suki Kahlon, facilities officer at Thames Valley Housing Association, said: "Safety is paramount to us and we have therefore made Identicom part of our health and safety policy. We decided we needed a more robust system than we were previously using for our lone workers.

"With Identicom, personnel can use the "Red Alert" at any time they feel vulnerable knowing that, if required, they can quickly get support should they feel threatened."

Now, when a user is entering a new or potentially hazardous situation, the user can activate the "Amber Alert" function. This allows them to leave a quick 20-second voice message outlining whom and where they are, and what risks they are facing. This is accessed by the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) should there be a "Red Alert" subsequently actioned on the device.

During such an alert, dedicated staff at the Alarm Receiving Centre can discreetly listen in to what is happening and make an assessment as to the level of support required - involving the Police if necessary. All audio captured through the device is recorded for future use as admissible evidence in court if required.

Innovative Rotherham company, Connexion2 has secured a contract with Travelodge, the UK's fastest growing budget hotel chain, to provide their market leading lone worker security device, Identicom.

The Dinnington company's SoloProtect package is based on the Identicom system which is designed to look like a normal ID badge but allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message.

It also allows a user who is feeling unsafe to request monitoring or specific assistance through the ability to discreetly open a live audio channel. Dedicated staff at the Alarm Receiving Centre can discreetly monitor what is happening, capture the audio evidence, and make an assessment as to the level of support required - involving the police if necessary. All audio captured through the device is recorded for future use as admissible evidence in court if required.

Travelodge is rolling out Identicom devices in over 500 hotels, which are being deployed across a mixture of the company's existing and brand-new hotels.

Rotherham's Connexion2 has signed a new partnership to deliver their lone worker solutions in the USA and Canada across a range of market sectors.

The Dinnington-based manufacturer of the UK's most widely-used dedicated lone worker device, Identicom, are teaming up with G4S Justice Services, LLC, an electronic monitoring services heavyweight, in order to facilitate a range of leading solutions to help lone workers dynamically assess and reduce risks faced as part of their job.

Florida-based G4S Justice Services is being supplied with Identicom devices by Connexion2 and from there are supplying lone worker solutions in conjunction with industry leading Alarm Receiving Centres providing the first line of response to any alerts subsequently raised.

News: Identicom safeguarding frontline staff

Rotherham-based Connexion2 has secured further contracts to protect staff working alone with their Identicom device.

The Dinnington company is providing Rochdale Borough Council's frontline lone-working staff with a more secure working environment and the technology to gather evidence against tenants who verbally abuse its staff. Such workers are typically facing a range of social risks from verbal abuse, intimidation and attack or assault.

The SoloProtect package is based on the award-winning Identicom system which is designed to look like a normal ID badge and allows lone workers to raise an alarm, make an emergency phone call or send a text message.

SoloProtect added another layer of defence to the council's existing lone worker procedures. This proved so successful that the Homeless Service, Building Controls and Revenue & Benefits departments also incorporated the solution. Now the Council has a total of 60 Identicom devices being used by frontline staff.

Javed Rehman, senior support worker at Rochdale Council, said: "Identicom is extremely practical and easy to use and it looks like a normal ID badge and can be worn round the neck which leaves your hands free. This means there is no need to fumble in our pockets for a mobile phone and everyone feels much safer knowing that they can open up a connection to the monitoring centre and can escalate the response which can involve the police if necessary."

York Housing Association has also chosen Coonnexion2 to deliver a bespoke policy and training package following a review of its lone worker policy.

The lone worker security management training and consultancy services focus on working with both the employer and employee to enhance the protection of lone workers, providing education and comprehensive support on all aspects of lone worker protection for the employer, the lone worker manager and the individual lone worker.

The association provides a range of housing and support services to over 600 households in Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire and has also chosen the Identicom system to provide frontline staff with additional confidence knowing they could discreetly raise an alarm whilst carrying out their work and travelling between locations.
