News: Steel City Promotions is Rotherham's best new start up

By

Steel City Promotions has been named as the Best New Start Up in the The Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2010.

Sheffield Hallam University graduate Matthew Pennefather set up events management business from a one-bedroom flat off the Eccleshall Road in Sheffield 18 months ago.

From there, the 27-year-old has outgrown even the two units he operates out of the RiDO-run Fusion @ Magna business centre in Rotherham.

He's taken on a new member of staff Charlotte Ogle, 25, and next month is recruiting for seven new freelance positions ahead of the Christmas events rush.

Earlier this year Steel City Promotions recreated the glitz and glamour of a night in the golden era of 1950's Hollywood to celebrate the launch of the new BMW 5 Series.

The scene was set with a giant 40ft long Hollywood sign fully illuminated across the roof of the venue, glamorous hostesses offering guests complimentary champagne at the end of the red carpet and a whole host of stunning lighting effects.

Matthew said: "I'm delighted to have picked up this accolade. I started out just taking private bookings for weddings and company events.

"Things are going well for us."

Matthew picked up £500 from category sponsor Rotherham Youth Enterprise. The Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2010 is sponsored by Rotherham Enterprise Network (REN) and UK Steel Enterprise and the overall winner will be announced in October.
