News: Rotherham shortlisted to become first UK Town of Culture

By

From nearly 400 bids, Rotherham has been shortlisted to become the UK's first Town of Culture, reports Visit Rotherham.

Visit Rotherham reported on a bid to the national competition last week.

Adding to the UK City of Culture, the competition is open to small, medium and large towns, with the winner delivering a vibrant cultural programme. Showcasing towns’ local visions and voices - through new arts venues, performances, workshops and more - this competition brings local investment, creates a lasting sense of pride in towns, and opens doors to the arts for everyone.

From 398 bids, Rotherham has made it into the final 15 towns still in the running to host the programme year.

It comes on the back of Rotherham's landmark year as the world's first Children's Capital of Culture in 2025, a pioneering, award-winning programme that put young people at the heart of arts, culture and creativity.

Rotherham's bid focuses on the real-life stories of place, saying: "We come from the England people don't put on postcards. We became the town people told stories about. The next chapter is where we stop asking whether Rotherham deserves a better future and start writing it."

Rotherham’s cultural offer is strengthened by a diverse network of organisations working both independently and in partnership. These include literacy charity Grimm & Co, which is set to become the national centre for folk and fairy tales, Flux Rotherham, part of Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places programme, which works alongside communities across the borough to increase participation in arts and culture, and ROAR, which provides vital support for independent artists and creatives.

Together with major visitor attractions such as Magna Science Adventure Centre and Gulliver’s Valley Theme Park, they contribute to an increasingly confident cultural environment.

Rotherham's outdoor venues further strengthen that landscape, including the award-winning Clifton Park, Rother Valley Country Park which has recently seen major investment, and Wentworth Woodhouse, one of Britain's grandest stately homes, which has become a major cultural and tourism destination following significant restoration work. In 2025, the historic estate welcomed thousands of visitors when it hosted the prestigious RHS Flower Show.

Rotherham's bid says: "Our Rotherham - and your nation - isn't defined by its past. It's driven by it. Join us as we become your UK Town of Culture."

Cllr Chris Read, Leader of Rotherham Council, said: "The shortlisting for UK Town of Culture 2028 is great news for Rotherham and great recognition of the hard work over many years of the whole partnership. From becoming the world's first Children's Capital of Culture to the Women's Euros and our growing local events programme, Rotherham has shown how cultural events can inspire people and bring communities together. Our bid was based not on some abstract art, but on the real experience of our community, the people who live here, and the highs and lows we've been through together.

"We have an incredible story to tell - and not necessarily the story others might impose on us. It's supported by iconic landmarks such as Wentworth Woodhouse and Clifton Park to events like the Rotherham Show that are woven into the fabric of our lives. This shortlist is a tribute to everyone who contributes to making Rotherham such a vibrant and welcoming place."

Lisa Nandy, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport of the United Kingdom, said: “Rotherham wears its Yorkshire identity with real pride, and they’re rightly proud of their incredibly rich cultural life. Like so many of our great industrial towns, its strength comes from that deep sense of community and from the creativity of the people who call it home. I'm very excited to see how Rotherham makes its case to be the first ever UK Town of Culture.”

15 towns will now compete for the inaugural UK Town of Culture 2028 title. The shortlisted towns are:

Small towns: Ilfracombe, Isle of Bute, Lerwick, Sandown, Strabane, and Stockton Town Centre Ward
Medium towns: Corby, Great Yarmouth, Leith, Pontypridd, and Port Talbot
Large towns: Basildon, Birkenhead, Grimsby and Rotherham

Shortlisted towns will now receive £60,000 each to finalise their bids, which will explain how they would use culture to celebrate their town, showcase original storytelling, empower their local communities and provide more accessible culture in their local area.

From these fifteen shortlisted towns, an independent panel will recommend the best small, medium and large town from the full applications they receive. An overall winner from these three towns will be designated the “UK Town of Culture 2028” and receive a £3m grant from the government. The additional two towns, from the other two categories, will be selected as finalists and receive £250,000 each to carry out part of their programme.

The winner will go on to host a season of culture in 2028, which will help them to deliver a long-lasting legacy of cultural participation and local pride as has been seen in previous winners of the UK City of Culture competition; Derry-Londonderry 2013, Hull 2017, Coventry 2021 and Bradford 2025.

Chair of the independent panel, Sir Phil Redmond said: "The response to the competition has been, to say the least, overwhelming, quite literally from all four corners of the UK. It has been fantastic that nearly 400 towns have come forward, sharing their sense of pride, ambition and desire to demonstrate how much they have, and continue to contribute to our national story.

"That of course has made making the decision on the shortlist itself much more difficult, never mind the actual winners.

"I look forward to visiting those towns that have made the list and I am sure that, just like City of Culture, those that didn’t manage it will have found the experience of taking part worthwhile in strengthening partnerships, raising awareness and reminding us all of the depth and spread of the UK’s cultural landscape. I’d like to thank them all for that."

By

Rotherham-based AESSEAL Plc’s ongoing commitment to health and safety has been endorsed with a 13th consecutive gold accolade in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ 70th anniversary awards.

AESSEAL is one of the world's leading specialists in the design and manufacture of mechanical seals, bearing protectors, seal support systems and gland packing. With its global headquarters at Templeborough, the award-winning company manufactures mechanical seals for a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, food, water, mining and pharmaceuticals.

The RoSPA President’s Gold Award has been granted to AESSEAL in recognition of its exceptional health and safety performance during 2025.

AESSEAL managing director Chris Rea said: "Thirteen consecutive golds are testament to the company’s commitment to keeping its employees safe. This is a landmark year for RoSPA and we are proud to be part of a legacy built on dedication to high safety standards, the well‑being of individuals and a shared commitment to excellence. We committed to making accident prevention a central pillar of our organisation and I am delighted that this has again been recognised with a RoSPA Gold Award.

"The awards began as a small event to recognise the achievements of companies prioritising the safety of workers in the UK, and has now grown into the biggest health and safety awards programme in the world, with 2,000 different entries from almost 60 countries, impacting more than seven million employees."

RoSPA growth director Julia Small, added: "The high standards AESSEAL has achieved are the result of hard work and dedication, of which AESSEAL should be rightfully proud and which RoSPA is delighted to honour. 2026 is a landmark year for the RoSPA Awards as we reflect on how far workplace safety has come in 70 years. It is because of the commitment of health and safety leaders like AESSEAL that people today are safer at work than in the past, and sets an inspiring example for the future.

News: Rotherham Entrepreneur named amongst Yorkshire’s "brightest and best"

By

The co-founder of a Rotherham-based IT provider has been named as one of Yorkshire’s top entrepreneurs.

Louis Marcus, who runs Balliante, has been named by influential regional business publication Yorkshire Business Insider as one of Yorkshire’s top 42 entrepreneurs aged under 42 and will be presented with his award at a glittering ceremony held in Leeds this week.

Louis secured his place on the list, which celebrates the region’s ‘brightest and best’ young entrepreneurs in the region, in recognition of the growth and success Balliante has enjoyed during the past 12 months and the key role Louis has played in bringing a number of innovative new products to market.

Responsible for overseeing all aspects of Balliante’s technical development, Louis has overseen the development of several key projects, including overseeing the building and development of a purpose-built data centre, as well as developing from scratch a bespoke CRM system, aimed specifically at helping SMEs harness technology to operate more effectively.

Louis began his own business journey when he was just 18 years old, when he launched his first web-hosting business whilst still at college. After successfully selling the business, and pursuing a career in IT, Louis co-founded Balliante with business partner Craig Boddy in 2019, who was named on the prestigious list of top 42 entrepreneurs under 42 last year.

Together, Louis and Craig have overseen a significant period of growth, and today, Balliante supports a diverse range of businesses throughout the UK, Europe and the US. Last November, the company was crowned Small Business of the Year by Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber, not only in recognition of the company’s impressive growth journey but also their commitment to helping business owners across South Yorkshire to forge stronger connections, creating new jobs, as well as acting as a mentor to Balliante’s growing team.

Louis Marcus, co-Managing Director, Balliante, said: “Over the past 12 months, Balliante has been on an incredible growth journey, and being named as one of Yorkshire’s top entrepreneurs is an incredible honour. With many business owners turning to technology to improve efficiency and boost productivity, I think Balliante is well-placed to enjoy future growth and success.

"This year, we set our sights not only on growing our business but also diversifying and expanding the products and services we provide. This has seen us invest in building our own data centre, giving our customers greater flexibility, as well as investing in developing and designing our own products – most notably our bespoke customer relationship management software, which we developed specifically to support SME business owners. Being recognised in this way isn’t just a terrific moment for me personally it’s the result of the efforts of the entire team, and we’re hoping to continue building on the success we’ve enjoyed during the next year.”

Craig Boddy, co-Managing Director, Balliante, added: “When Louis and I sat at a kitchen table back in 2019, never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined that the business we decided to create would be one that is working with businesses across the world, and Louis has played a vital role in the success we’ve enjoyed.

"Over the past 12 months, Louis has immersed himself in developing some incredibly technically challenging pieces of work – from building a data centre from scratch to writing a bespoke CRM system, which I’m sure will help a wide range of business owners. Louis’ place on this year’s 42 under 42 is very well deserved, and together we’re very much looking forward to seeing what the next year will bring.”

Founded in 2019 and now based in Rotherham town centre, Balliante is a specialist IT provider that helps businesses to harness technology to boost productivity and efficiency, by managing IT systems and networks, developing web-based solutions and producing custom-built apps and software.

News: All the winners at the Barnsley & Rotherham Business Awards 2025

By

Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce celebrated the region's business in style recently as it hosted the annual Barnsley & Rotherham Business Awards at Magna in Rotherham.

In an evening packed with glitz and glamour, more than 560 members of South Yorkshire’s business community came together to reflect on their achievements during the past 12 months, and with 14 different awards up for grabs it proved to be a night to remember for the Naylor Group, who secured a clutch of accolades on the evening, winning the large business category as well as being highly commended for the Sustainability award. The company was also one of five businesses shortlisted for the Community Impact award.

Hosted by respected SAS veteran and best-selling author Colin MacLachlan, and with live entertainment provided by 2017 X Factor finalist Holly Tandy, the awards recognised the achievements of all areas of the local business community – from apprentices and new entrepreneurs taking the first steps in their chosen vocations to businesses demonstrating excellence in customer service, business growth and staff development.

However, the night belonged to Barnsley's Naylor Group. Founded in 1890, the fourth-generation family-run business has reinvented itself, successfully investing more than £18m in the last two years alone. In addition to going above and beyond the call of duty in supporting its 350-strong workforce through a wide range of people development-led initiatives, the company has also successfully reduced its electricity consumption by a staggering 89%, as well as repurposing more than 7,000 tonnes of used plastics, which would have otherwise been destined for landfill.

The important role played by charities was also recognised. In what proved to be one of the most fiercely contested categories, Rotherham Samaritans secured the title of Charity of the Year, whilst Barnsley Hospice and Rotherham Abuse Counselling Service (Rothacs) were highly commended. The three charities were all awarded cash prizes to support their charitable efforts. Other winners from the charity sector saw Barnsley Hospice CEO Martin Tune awarded the title of Business Person of the Year, whilst Rotherham Hospice was awarded Campaign of the Year.

Rotherham-based IT provider Balliante were crowned Small Business of the Year, whilst Equans secured a double award win, landing the titles of Business Community Impact and Excellence in Customer Service.

The hard work and dedication of several longstanding South Yorkshire businesses were also recognised on the night, having collectively accumulated 360 years of service with special salutes to business: Kinspeed and Age UK Rotherham (40 years), Steel City Marketing (45 years), Rotherham United (100 years) and Shorts Accountants (135 years).

Edward Naylor, Executive Chairman: Naylor industries said: “We’ve been on quite a journey over the past few years. Historically, we have manufactured clay pipes for the construction industry – demand for which has been declining for a number of years. We recognised that we needed to adapt our business by diversifying our product range, entering new markets and perhaps most important of all, investing in the communities we serve, creating opportunities for the next generation to forge successful careers in the manufacturing sector.

"Being awarded the title of Business of the Year by Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber is an incredible achievement, and I feel immensely proud of every member of our team who have contributed to our success.”

Craig Boddy, Managing Director, Balliante, said: "Being named as small business of the year is a huge honour, and I feel incredibly proud that the hard work and dedication shown by our team has been recognised in this way. When we relocated our business to Rotherham Town Centre, we wanted to play a small part in contributing to the regeneration efforts of the town. We've enjoyed a significant period of growth during the past twelve months, not just supporting fellow businesses in South Yorkshire, but we've also seen demand for our services increase from customers across Europe and the US.

"It's been an incredible 12 months for Balliante, and as more businesses adopt new forms of technology in their day-to-day business, I think we are well-placed to continue our growth journey in the future."

Matt Travis, President, Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber, said: “Over the past year, businesses across Barnsley, Rotherham and the wider South Yorkshire region have faced some of the most challenging conditions in recent memory. Yet despite these headwinds our businesses have continued to adapt, innovate and thrive.

"From manufacturers embracing cutting-edge technology to service providers finding new ways to deliver value, the spirit of enterprise and entrepreneurship in Barnsley and Rotherham remains as strong as ever. Success is never achieved in isolation; it’s the result of people coming together in the spirit of collaboration, trust and shared ambition.

"The Barnsley & Rotherham business awards is one of the highlights of the Chamber’s business calendar, and the ways in which many businesses go above and beyond the call of duty never fails to amaze me. I would like to give my congratulations to every business that took part in this year’s Business Awards. The standard of entry was remarkable, and every organisation that was shortlisted, highly commended and winners on the night should feel incredibly proud of their achievements.”

News: Rotherham restaurant named as one of UK's top chip shops

By

A Rotherham restaurant is in the running for a top industry award having made the shortlist for the UK’s best restaurants in The National Fish & Chip Awards.

Whitby's at Catcliffe opened in 2011, a new build site at Poplars Business Park which includes an eat-in restaurant which can seat 180 customers, alongside a traditional takeaway.

Restaurant of the Year is the title that ten deserving outlets are hoping to take away at the 2026 edition of the industry’s premier award ceremony. In recognition of amazing food, passion for the sector, quality and high-level commitment to serving customers the best of the best, the category entrants will be on the edge of their seats as the competition heats up.

The adjudicating panel has designed a detailed review process that will grade the participants against benchmarks that reinforce best practice and professional integrity to keep standards at the highest levels.

The Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year category is open to all bona fide independent fish and chip restaurants in the UK.

Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), which runs the flagship event, said: "Small businesses are the lifeblood of the UK high street, and they provide the kind of opportunity, variety and individuality that boosts economies and brings us all together, and we are taking this opportunity to champion this year’s standout restaurants.

“The shortlisted 10 are making long-lasting contributions to uphold the great British institution of fish and chips, whether it’s with a traditional take or elevated to fine dining status. Sitting down at the table with family or friends to enjoy a fantastic meal is where memories are made and it’s wonderful to see these restaurants creating shared experiences across multi-generations with great precision. I have a feeling that Restaurant of Year is going to be a tough one to separate the winner – all the best to our contenders!”

After judges have assessed every part of their businesses, the highest scoring five will progress to the semi-finals which will be announced later this year. The Top 5 will receive an unannounced visit and taste test by an industry specialist, with the overall winner to be crowned on 25 February 2026 at the awards ceremony at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge.

Whitby's has two South Yorkshire restaurants, in Rotherham and Doncaster. Executives behind the business include Lord Kirkham, the founder of furniture chain, DFS, and James Foers of local construction contracting firm, Foers.

Whitbys at Rotherham was a 2024/25 Good Food Award winner – Gold Seal.

It takes grit, determination and drive to run a successful business, and with the entry deadline looming, Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce has announced that SAS veteran and best-selling author Colin MacLachlan will host the special evening of celebration.

No stranger to handling high pressure situations, having swapped the battlefield for the boardroom, Colin is perhaps best known as being one of the first instructors to participate in the hit Channel 4 TV show SAS: Who Dares Wins as well as the Channel 5 series Secrets of the SAS, will oversee proceedings at the highly coveted awards ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of the local business community when it returns to Magna in Rotherham on November 14.

A respected military veteran and SundayTimes best selling author, Colin served for 18 years with the Royal Scots and the SAS. He was one of the youngest soldiers in a generation to pass the gruelling SAS selection process, and during his career, Colin was involved in a series of high profile and daring missions.

He is one of a handful of men who has handled hostage negotiations, hostage rescue and been a hostage himself. Since retiring from the special forces, Colin has provided high-level security, where he supported the Saudi royal family, amongst others, as well as successfully launching his own security business.

With 14 different awards up for grabs, including the highly coveted title of Business of the Year, the Barnsley & Rotherham Business Awards showcase and celebrate the achievements of the local business community over the past 12 months. The awards are free to enter and open to all businesses with the “S” postcode, as well as members of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber.

Businesses celebrating milestone anniversaries in 2025 are also invited to apply for a highly coveted “Salute to Business” in recognition of their longstanding contributions to the local economy.

However, any business wishing to take part is urged to act quickly as the deadline for entries is Friday September 12 at 4pm.

Colin MacLachlan said: "I'm looking forward to taking part in the Barnsley & Rotherham Business Awards.

"My career in the SAS taught me the importance of teamwork, collaboration and the ability to succeed in challenging and high-pressure situations and those skills are equally important when it comes to running a small business. I'd like to wish everyone who is entering this year's awards every success with their entry and meeting you all on what promises to be a night to remember.

Matt Travis, President, Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber, added: “The Barnsley & Rotherham Business Awards is one of the highlights of the Chamber’s calendar year. It’s a unique opportunity for businesses from across South Yorkshire to come together to make new contacts, as well as celebrate and showcase their achievements during the past year, and I would encourage businesses from across the region to get involved.

"As any business owner will tell you, running a business often means working under pressure, teamwork, drive and a sheer will to succeed – many of the qualities that are the key to the success of the special forces. I’m looking forward to welcoming Colin on the evening, and I’m in no doubt that he will make this year’s awards ceremony a night to remember.”

News: Grimm & Co wins prestigious Cultural Enterprise Award for Best Visitor Experience

By

Grimm & Co, the Rotherham-based children's literacy charity that helped inspire the world's first Children's Capital of Culture, has been recognised with a prestigious Cultural Enterprise Award in the Best Visitor Experience category.

The announcement came at an awards ceremony in Liverpool, where Founding Chief Executive Deborah Bullivant proudly collected the award. Other winners included the National Trust and the British Library.

The Cultural Enterprise Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in the cultural and heritage sectors. Grimm & Co's recognition alongside these renowned organisations highlights the charity's significant impact and the quality of experience it provides to visitors.

Deborah Bullivant, CEO and founder of Grimm & Co, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to receive this recognition for our visitor experience. This award belongs to our incredible team, volunteers, and most importantly, the children and young people whose creativity and imagination drive everything we do at Grimm & Co.

“To be recognised alongside such established cultural institutions validates our approach of putting young voices at the heart of cultural experiences. Our Emporium of Stories with Feastery café, a story marketplace and Apothecary to the Magical are open to all and this award demonstrates the quality of experience people receive when they visit Grimm & Co.”

Based in Rotherham town centre, Grimm & Co has been instrumental in the borough's cultural transformation, having sparked the movement that led to the town becoming the world's first Children's Capital of Culture in 2025.

The charity's initial project in 2017 asked local young people: 'If you were in charge of Rotherham, what would you do?' – a question that ignited a youth-led vision for the town's future.

Converting a former church building, the award-winning visitor experience at Grimm & Co combines storytelling, imagination, and creative learning in ways that inspire both children and adults. The charity's approach has proven that cultural experiences designed with and for young people can achieve national recognition for excellence.

The recognition comes as Grimm & Co continues to play a key role in the town's extensive cultural programming for 2025, which includes festivals, creative learning projects in schools, and employment opportunities for young people in the creative industries, supported by Arts Council England.

News: Sky’s the Limit for Barnsley & Rotherham’s Business of the Year

By

It proved to be a night to remember for South Yorkshire’s business community which came together to celebrate their achievements and reflect on the success they have enjoyed over the past 12 months at the Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards.

During a glittering evening at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, the Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards, sponsored by Barnsley College celebrated the achievements of all elements of South Yorkshire’s business community: from apprentices and new business owners taking the first steps in their chosen vocation, to organisations that have gone above and beyond the call of duty to deliver truly outstanding work in the fields of growth, people development, customer service, sustainability and community impact.

Hosted by TV presenter Amy Garcia, the event saw over 540 guests from across South Yorkshire’s business community come together to celebrate their achievements over the past 12 months. However, the night belonged to Parkgate-based Sky High Tree & Ground Maintenance Services Ltd, which was chosen by judges to be a worthy winner of the highly coveted title of Business of the Year.

Since founding the business with little more than a pair of hedge trimmers and a dream of working outdoors in 2014, founder Luke Hammill has seen his company grow into a successful multi-million-pound venture, which employs 30 full-time members of staff. Today, the company successfully works on behalf of housebuilders, local authorities and some of Britain’s largest construction companies, where the company is responsible for developing community green spaces throughout the UK.

Under Luke’s leadership, Sky High Tree & Ground Maintenance Services Ltd has enjoyed significant year on year growth, with turnover rising from £1 million to £3 million within the past 12 months alone. As a direct result, the company has invested significantly in new plant machinery, staff training as well as investing back into the communities they serve by working closely with armed forces charities to help veterans forge new careers upon returning to civilian life.

Cateegory winners on the saw three other Rotherham-based companies receive accolades, with education recruitment specialists Trust Education being named as Start-Up of the Year, Equans securing the People Development Award and the Manvers-based Mace Group being crowned best large business.

Barnsley-based winners saw Wombwell-based Cranswick Convenience Foods secured the Community Impact Award in recognition of its commitment to supporting a wide range of good causes in Barnsley and across South Yorkshire, whilst Barnsley College’s innovative Carbon Literacy Project, as well as work undertaken to reduce carbon emissions across its sites, was rewarded with the Sustainability Award.

Barnsley FC Community Trust secured the title of Charity of the Year in recognition of its transformative work in the field of education, health, social inclusion and sports participation. The trust, along with highly commended charities Weston Park Cancer Charity and Age UK Rotherham all received cash prizes to support their work in South Yorkshire.

Longstanding businesses Electrical Safety UK, Barnsley Hospice and Brearley & Co Accountants were presented with salutes to business in recognition of their 20, 30, and 40-year service respectively, whilst Barnsley-based JC Snell and White’s Bakery both celebrated their 90th anniversaries in 2024 – a combined total of more than 270 years’ service to South Yorkshire’s business community.

The important contributions made by charitable organisations were also recognised on the night, with Barnsley FC Community Trust securing the title of Charity of the Year, in recognition of its transformative work in the field of education, health, social inclusion and sports participation. The trust, along with highly commended charities Weston Park Cancer Charity and Age UK Rotherham all received cash prizes to support their work.

Individual awards presented saw Leo Lewin (Affinity 2020 CiC) awarded the title of Apprentice of the Year, whilst Alicia Hewitt (Secure Power Limited) was crowned as Businessperson of the Year. A Special President’s Award was also given to Chris MacCormac, Chief Executive of the Morthyng Group, in recognition of their transformative work within the education sector.

In a heartfelt tribute which looked back at his 30 year career, Chris was honoured for his nearly 30 years of leadership and dedication towards education and community support. Chris started his career a youth worker in 1980, before going to transform Morthyng into a leading national training provider, which has helped thousands from disadvantaged backgrounds. He retires after a distinguished career and was celebrated for his lasting impact on the local community.

Luke Hammill, Managing Director, Sky High Ground Maintenance, said: “It has been an incredible year for our business. Winning the title of Business of the Year, securing the Growth Award as well as being highly commended in the Businessperson of the Year category is something that I feel incredibly proud to have achieved.

"When I set up the business ten years ago, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that the company would grow and scale in the way it has done, and I feel very honoured that our efforts have been recognised in this way by the judges. I left school with no formal qualifications at all, and I hope the success I’ve enjoyed since starting my own business goes to show that with the right work ethic and determination, anything is possible.

"Having the right people to support you is key. I’d like to give a massive thank you to each and every person of my Sky High team, especially my partner Danielle who has been with me on every step of this amazing journey.

"Businesses play a vital role in shaping the local and regional economy. From the outset, I’ve always wanted my business to be a force for good: we undertake a wide range of community projects, from supporting local schools to breaking down barriers towards employment by giving veterans a chance to rebuild their lives after leaving the armed forces.

"Of course, we’ve got no intention of resting on our laurels. One of the reasons we joined Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber was because of the work it undertakes to create opportunities for its members within local supply chains. We’re hoping to work more closely with the Chamber in the years to come to bring these plans to fruition, which in turn will not just create more opportunities for our business but grow the local and regional economy.”

Mattthew Stephens, President, Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber, added: “Over the past 12 months there has been some incredible work delivered by businesses of all sizes across South Yorkshire. I would like to congratulate each and every business who supported this year’s event. The standard of entries was exceptional, and every organisation that was shortlisted, highly commended and winners on the night should feel incredibly proud of their achievements.

"Collectively, members of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber employ more than 70,000 people across South Yorkshire. The success of events like our business awards helps to showcase and celebrate the achievements of our incredibly diverse business community – from start-ups taking the very first steps on their business journey to longstanding businesses, which have collectively devoted 270 years of service to our local communities, and despite many businesses preparing themselves for challenging times, at least in the short term, the Chamber will continue to offer support, advice and campaign on behalf of South Yorkshire businesses to ensure their voices are heard.”
