News: Fripp Design and Research to showcase emerging technologies in healthcare

By

Innovative Rotherham company Fripp Design and Research are set to take part in the Emerging Technologies in Healthcare half-day seminar in Leeds next week.

Electronics Yorkshire is organising the free networking seminar, in conjunction with Medilink, that will bring together leaders in electronics, regulatory affairs and medical devices and will focus on the growing need for electronics, electronic sensors and wireless technology in medical devices.

The seminar is aimed at product developers, technologists and individuals involved in R&D, providing an invaluable insight into the different perspectives from across the sectors. The main focus of the seminar will be a series of presentations from companies and organisations in the healthcare sector, as well as case studies from companies involved in woundcare and diagnostic technologies.

The presentations will be delivered by Yorkshire-based organisations including: Medipex, highlighting its activities and examples of innovations it is currently progressing; and York EMC, focusing on what is required for the CE marking of electronics and medical products.

Experts from Fripp Design and Research will explain the layered fabrication opportunities in delivering healthcare solutions.

Based on the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Fripp Design and Research is one of the UK's leading product design, research and business consultancies.

Their expertise in the medical field was recognised last year when The Wellcome Trust invested £500,000 with the University of Sheffield and Fripp Design in the rapid manufacture of soft tissue prosthetics.

The three year project will develop a system to fabricate soft tissue prostheses for patients suffering from facial deformities as a result of disease or serious accidents.

From this project, a number of new applications have emerged and Fripp Design and Research believes there is an opportunity to replicate the success of the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing the in aerospace sector, within the healthcare sector.

The event takes place at Electronics Yorkshire in Leeds on October 27.
