News: Optare accept offers on Rotherham site
In their latest trading update, bus manufacturer Optare has announced that they have accepted offers to sell the Rotherham site at Hellaby as two separate developments.
The board anticipate that the sale will significantly reduce the bank term debt of £3.3m. Plans are also being reviewed for the relocation of the Leeds factory later this year to a new local facility.
Leeds-based Optare was sold to Blackburn coachbuilder Darwen Holdings in a £16m deal in 2008. An in-depth restructuring programme led to the decision to close the firm's plant at Hellaby.
The Rotherham manufacturing facility closed in July 2009 and the Cumbernauld service centre closed in November 2009. A service centre at Hellaby remained in operation.
Optare announced that they had accepted an offer for their former Rotherham manufacturing site back in June 2010.
In the trading update for the year ended December 31 2010, the board reported that the company's order book has further improved from £24.4m to over £34m but bad weather, combined with the re-phasing of some customer orders, has affected full-year sales.
