News: Macalloy supply Abu Dhabi financial development

By

Rotherham construction experts, Macalloy, has supplied key products to another huge project in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Sowwah Square is a premium commercial development at the centre of Sowwah Island in the capital of Abu Dhabi. It is part of the first phase of the flagship Central Business District (CBD) and is now in advanced stages of construction.

The Square comprises four international Grade 'A' office towers, providing a total of 180,000 sq m of premium commercial space. These 30-36 storey towers encircle the new headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX). Sowwah Square will also feature extensive retail, restaurants and parking for 5,200 cars.

The distinctive new headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange is an iconic, four-level facility. Glass-enclosed with a roof the size of a football field, the building rises 90 feet above a 160-foot-diameter water feature on massive stone piers.

Steel contractor, Eversendai selected Macalloy's 460 grade tendons in M42 and M48 diameters with a central connection disc for use in the two parking structures, partially submerged at the north and south boundaries of the site.

Based in Dinnington, Macalloy won the prestigious Queen's Awards for Enterprise 2010 for international trade. Their threaded bar and cable systems can be found in engineering and construction projects across the globe.

Their products have been used in a number of high profile projects in the UAE including the Burj Al Arab Hotel, Dubai International airport, Dubai Metro stations and Dubai Sports City.
