News: First employers back Apprenticeship campaign
Rotherham Work and Skills Board employers Bramall Construction, Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce and INE Nails have become the first employers to back the 100 in 100 Apprenticeship campaign.
Neil Baxter, Managing Director of Bramall Construction and regional Apprenticeship Ambassador, is keen to support the campaign by recruiting four new apprentices, in addition to the 43 already being trained with Bramall.
Neil said: "We are proud to support the "100 in 100" campaign.
"Apprentices are the lifeblood of our business. From the moment they begin working with us, they make a valuable contribution to increasing productivity on site, which in turn makes us more competitive.
"Recruiting apprentices is vital to the long term success of Bramall. It plays a major part in helping us achieve our business objectives, and I would strongly encourage other organisations to consider doing the same."
Katie Young, owner of INE nails added: "Taking on an apprentice can without doubt prove to be one of the most valuable business investments that you could ever make.
"The potential benefits are more significant than you may at first think. In the short term you will often find the new employee to be extremely keen to learn from you with an eagerness to add value to your environment and business activities wherever possible. Employing an apprentice can be a very rewarding journey for both parties.
"In the long run, having provided the right early support and experience within your workplace, you can gain an efficient, knowledgeable and loyal employee.
Considering the financial benefits too, employing an apprentice is probably one of the smartest business decisions that you could ever make."
Rotherham College of Arts and Technology are also supporting the campaign and the college's aim is to provide free advice and recruitment support to employers in all sectors. Apprenticeships enable local employers to access government funding to train existing staff and new recruits of all ages. The college currently has 25 pathways available for apprentices to start now ranging from Electrical Engineering to Health and Social Care.
