News: Rotherham's young entrepreneurs put on a show

By

Schools and students who have been participating in Rotherham Ready's acclaimed Young Entrepreneurs Club programme took over the hall in Rockingham Professional Development Centre to show exactly why Rotherham was crowned as the Most Enterprising Place in Britain.

Students who run the Young Entrepreneurs Club in their respective schools set up stalls to sell and showcase their latest products whilst also taking part in a speed-networking activity to share best practice with other schools and students from across the borough.

Over lunch, students were joined by local authority staff and business mentors from the local community who have been supporting the initiative.

Jackie Frost, Rotherham Ready Project Manager, said: "It's fantastic to see what the Young Entrepreneurs Clubs have achieved. I'm amazed at the quality of the products for sale here today and the level of confidence these students have to sell their wares and present themselves to adults. It's a testament to how the enterprise culture has really taken hold in Rotherham."

Young Entrepreneurs Clubs have been established in 25 Rotherham primary schools from disadvantaged areas throughout the borough and following a start up grant from Rotherham Ready, students have turned profits exceeding £1000 to help regenerate their local community, improve resources available in school, fund educational school trips and in some cases, donate to local charities.
