News: Sheffield City Region LEP build sector networks

By

Local businesses are being invited by the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to get involved in a series of sector groups which will help drive growth in key areas of the Sheffield City Region's economy.

A number of initial sectors have been identified which the private sector-led board believes have the greatest potential for growth over the next decade.

Advanced manufacturing, low carbon industries, creative and digital industries and healthcare were originally identified as the LEP's top priority growth sectors, with aviation, tourism, construction, retail and culture, leisure and sport also identified as strategically important for job creation.

Four initial groups are now being set up by the LEP to support and develop key industries, which will draw upon the experience and reach of some existing sector groups across the Region, as well forming new groups where they are required.

The groups are: Advanced manufacturing and materials; Creative and digital industries; Tourism, leisure and sport; Property and construction.

James Newman, Chairman of the Sheffield City Region LEP Board, said: "The Sheffield City Region has a long and proud history of being at the very forefront of the UK's industrial and entrepreneurial development.

"We have strong ambitions to build on this legacy by supporting and developing the most important sectors with the greatest potential for growth - ultimately to help build a more balanced, resilient and diverse economy.

"These groups will help make sure we build a strong network across all of our region's businesses and other stakeholders so that a coherent strategic direction for each sector can be created and delivery of that strategy made easier for both private and public sector participants."
