News: GMI awarded Riverside House fit out contract

By

Following 12 months of extensive construction work on the new civic building, Riverside House, on the edge of Rotherham town centre, GMI Construction has been awarded the contract to undertake the fit out of the 200,000 sq ft development.

The three individual blocks of five to seven storeys will provide a new Library and Arts Centre integrated with a Customer Service Centre on the ground floor. Upper floors will provide Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council staff with a new modern working environment which supports a 50% reduction in council office space upon completion in December of this year.

Paul Whitaker, Commercial Director for GMI said: "We have worked closely with Rotherham Borough Council to ensure that the fit out of the scheme will meet all their requirements upon occupying the new building.

"The development is a significant part of the overall Rotherham Renaissance town centre regeneration project and we are proud to be a part of the exciting transformation."

The design of the building itself has interesting aspects with the main structure being built from a steel frame that will be encapsulated with a stone and metal rainscreen cladding system.

The Leeds construction firm were also recently announced as the contractor set to build Rotherham United's Community Stadium on the same site.
