By

Year 7 pupils from Wingfield Business and Enterprise College in Rotherham displayed their own unique brand of retailing at Parkgate Shopping recently.

Their enterprise is part of a "Make £5 Blossom" scheme devised by local educational organisation Rotherham Ready, who invited Parkgate to mentor the participants at Wingfield.

The pupils have set up a business called "Flower Power", and showing all the initiative of seasoned retailers, took advantage of the Mother's Day rush with their range of flowers and gifts on one of the busiest Saturday's of the year at Parkgate.

Another group called C&C had as successful session at Parkgate selling gifts and cards, Crazy Confectionery has been offering healthy option biscuits throughout the college. Other teams are staging a penalty shoot-out with Rotherham FC stars, and a movie night at the College.

If they are successful with their business all profits raised are going to Comic Relief.

Denis Copeland, Parkgate Manager, along with his colleague Billy Smith has been giving the students practical guidance and information. Denis said: "The pupils have shown a very mature grasp of common sense business tactics, and their enthusiasm and teamwork is already reaping rewards."

Experts from Rotherham Ready are hosting a workshop at the TES exhibition in Manchester later this month.
