News: Millers secure second stadium sponsor

By

Rotherham United have secured their second major sponsorship deal for the new stadium, with long time partners Ben Bennett Jnr set to sponsor the East Stand.

Currently under construction on the site of the former Guest & Chrimes foundry close to the town centre, the £17.3m development is set to be completed in July next year.

The Eastwood-based steel strip manufacturer have had a long association with the football club and the sponsorship deal is for three years. It follows the deal that the club secured for the West Stand with Eric Twigg Foods and Pukka Pies.

Steve Lewis, head of commercial at Rotherham United, said: "I am ecstatic that the club have secured another major partner for the new stadium, and equally delighted to be extending our long term relationship with Ben Bennett Jnr.

"Ben Bennett Jnr are family business who are all Rotherham United supporters so we feel it was very fitting that they have chosen to sponsor the new family East Stand.

"I am looking forward to continuing this association into the new stadium and for many years to follow."

Ben Bennett, owner of Ben Bennett Jnr, added: "I am very proud and delighted to be sponsoring the new family stand. I watched my first Millers match on Boxing Day 1950 so I have been a supporter of the club for 61 years now.

"It was very important to me that we sponsored the family stand because my wife, son, daughter and my grandchildren all support the club, my eldest grandchild follows the club all around the country. I am thrilled to bits to see the club move into the new stadium and I am looking forward to spending many happy hours watching the club."

The family-owned company dates back to 1883, with the steel side of the business starting in 1936. They manufacture mild, carbon, hardened & tempered steel strip and specialise in narrow strip that is ideally suited to demanding, safety critical and highly specialised applications.

This week, Tony Stewart, chairman of Rotherham United, confirmed that a decision on the name for the new stadium is moving closer and could be announced before the end of the year.
