News: Newburgh secures Perkins engine contract

By

Newburgh Engineering has secured a prestigious contract with one of the world's best known engine manufacturers, Perkins Engines Company Limited.

Newburgh's Rotherham site won a contract to produce engine components after successfully completing Perkins' stringent supplier tendering process.

Newburgh's founding site, based in Bradwell, Derbyshire, has previously worked on smaller contracts for Perkins, but this contract win is a considerable boost for the Rotherham site's dedicated team.

Newburgh is a specialist contract manufacturer of component parts and assemblies for the nuclear, defence, oil and gas, petrochemical, aerospace and power generation industries.

Formed in 1932 and based in Peterborough, Perkins manufactures diesel and gas engines with thousands of different specifications in market sectors including agricultural, construction and electric power. Nearly 18 million pieces of equipment worldwide have ran- or are running – with Perkins power. The company was acquired by Caterpillar Inc in 1998 for US$1.325 billion, creating the world's largest diesel engine manufacturer.

Matthew Jewitt, commercial manager at Newburgh, said: "We are overjoyed to have been awarded this prestigious contract with such a well-known, long-established company."

Newburgh utilises manufacturing cells at their Templeborough facility, dedicated groups of resources operated by a team of multi-skilled individuals that are committed to producing a product or products for one customer. This provides the expertise and manufacturing capability to produce high quality engine components.

Vincent Middleton, managing director at Newburgh, added: "This is a fantastic achievement for the Rotherham team, who have worked tirelessly to secure a contract which will see us build a working partnership with Perkins as we move forward into 2012."
