News: Tata Steel search for new apprentices

By

Tata Steel has launched a search to find 17 bright, talented and passionate people to join its apprenticeship scheme in South Yorkshire.

The company is looking for 11 engineering, five technical and one administrative apprentice to start in September as part of the company's commitment to invest in its long-term future.

Mick Hood, HR director for speciality steels at Tata Steel, said: "Tata Steel is committed to investing in the long-term sustainability of the business and for that we need to train the next generation of engineers and technicians to ensure they have the specialist skills and expertise to help our business to thrive.

"Although we are facing a very difficult economic environment at the moment we understand that training the next generation of steel workers is a key part of our drive to make and supply the highest-quality steel products into some of the world's most demanding markets such as aerospace, automotive and oil and gas.

"The engineering apprentices will train in our newly-opened state-of-the-art training centre on the Stocksbridge steelworks. The new recruits will also work across the company's Rotherham, Stocksbridge and Brinsworth sites.

"The successful candidates can look forward to achieving essential qualifications and contributing to an international company that manufactures world-class steel."

The apprentices will complete a three year specialist training programme on Tata Steel's South Yorkshire sites as well as attending Rotherham College of Arts and Technology (RCAT) to work towards BTEC and NVQ level three qualifications.

Tata Steel's Speciality Steels business in South Yorkshire is benefiting from a new strategy that focuses on exceptional high-value products and sectors. An engineering training centre at the Stocksbridge site was officially opened last month.

Anyone who would like find out more or apply for an engineering or technical apprenticeship should log on to www.tatasteelcareers.com. The closing date for applications is March 31.
