News: Progress for Rolls-Royce in Rotherham

By

Harworth Estates, the Rotherham-based property arm of UK Coal, has completed the deal with Rolls-Royce for 17.4 acres of land on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham.

Contracts were conditionally exchanged at the beginning of the year and the deal was completed on April 18.

The world-renowned engineers has secured outline planning permission for three facilities in Rotherham.

The first to come forward is the Advanced Blade Casting Facility to be built as a sister factory to an existing operation in Derby. The 14,900 sq m factory will manufacture fan blades, principally for the aerospace sector.

A 21,000 sq m "Project PoWeR" facility is planned for manufacturing and assembling power vessels for the next generation of nuclear power stations and a 8,800 sq m building which could be for another Rolls-Royce facility or for one of their suppliers.

Together, they could create 360 jobs initially.

The AMP is the UK's premier advanced manufacturing technology park and is a key site in the region's enterprise zone. It is part of the 700 acre Waverley development, UK Coal's largest development site.

Housebuilders, Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes and Harron Homes have planning permission for the first phase of construction for 254 homes. The masterplan for the reclaimed opencast site includes 4,000 houses, shops, restaurants, schools, leisure facilities, health and community centres and parks.

Owen Michaelson, managing director of Harworth Estates, said: "We are delighted that Rolls Royce has chosen the Waverley AMP site for its new facility.

"The announcement of these contracts signals the start of Harworth Estates delivering on the Waverley regeneration scheme, which is hoped to bring an estimated £1 billion of investment in to the local area. We believe that together these developments will act as a strong catalyst for further investment and regeneration of Waverley; something Harworth Estates remains focused on delivering."

The first Rotherham facility is set to open in Spring 2013 and Rolls-Royce has also recently issued a tender worth £25m for the construction of the facilities.
