News: Mayoral approval for new RCAT facilities

By

The Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham recently toured the new facilities at Rotherham College of Arts & Technology's (RCAT) town centre campus.

New science laboratories, hair, nail and beauty salons, theatre workshops and media make-up suites, opened this autumn following a £3.2m refurbishment programme.

Also created are new areas for Foundation Learning, Photography, Childcare and Care. A new Centre for Learner Assessment and Student Support will assist those students who have barriers to learning and progress into work.

Other areas improved include a major facelift for the college's Studio Theatre, based in the Eastwood Building, and refurbished entrance areas to the buildings.

The total recent investment in the college is up to £10m, following on from the £7m Wentworth Building, which opened in 2011.

The Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Dave Pickering, said: "The College is setting a high standard. You can see how the enthusiastic the students are and the new facilities will uplift them even further.

"These new facilities will inspire learning."

Gill Alton, principal and chief executive of RCAT, said: "It has been an honour to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress to the College to view the new facilities. We are committed to ensuring we provide high-quality learning resources for our students to underpin excellent student success."
