News: Vitalife launch "world's first" Yerba Mate
Rotherham-based healthy tea specialist, Vitalife Ltd, is the first company in the world to develop and sell a powdered version of the popular, energising, South American tea "Yerba Mate."
Established in 2010 by health fanatic and serial entrepreneur Gavin Edley, Vitalife has since become one of the most popular brands of matcha green tea in the UK. Last year, it welcomed eight new "teas with purpose" to its range.
Vitalife has been selling their matcha green tea online and through health stores, including Holland and Barrett, for over two years, and expect their powdered Yerba Mate to become just as popular.
"It's pretty exciting" explained managing director Gavin Edley, "we're the first company in the entire world to develop this powdered version of the tea and offer it for sale to consumers.
"Yerba Mate has been around since the 16th Century, and with other teas being available in powdered form - like our popular matcha green tea - I was really surprised to find that nobody had tried to create a powdered version of Yerba before.
"The idea behind a powdered version of the tea is that even more of the well-known energising effects of Yerba will be felt. Given the fact that the drinker will actually be consuming the leaves themselves, rather than just the steeped water as with traditionally-brewed Yerba."
Gavin impressed the judges with his innovative products to win the Most Innovative Business at the recent Rotherham Entrepreneur of the Year Awards and the company is going from strength to strength from its base at RiDO's Fusion @ Magna business centre.
The firm has launched a number of gift packs for Christmas (pictured) and introduced "Limited Edition" matcha teas including "Kenya Ivory" matcha - made from white tea sourced from high-altitude farms in Kenya. This tea is said to contain more antioxidants than their standard matcha green tea range.
