News: Vision Express comes back to town following acquisition

By

National optical retailer Vision Express has announced an acquisition of 12 stores from Crown Eyeglass Ltd that includes the Direkt Optik store in Rotherham town centre.

Eight of the properties currently trading as Crown Optical Centre and Direkt Optik will transfer optical services to nearby Vision Express premises but the Riverside Precinct unit, and three others, will continue to trade from their existing locations, with their existing teams, under Vision Express branding.

Jonathan Lawson, chief executive officer at Vision Express, said: "This is a very exciting investment for Vision Express and we are looking forward to working with our new teams and welcoming new customers to Vision Express.

"We hope to replicate some of the successes we have had in our existing high street stores to provide more customers in Rotherham with an excellent eye care service, a wider range of products, as well as value for money."

Kate Clayton, head of Human Resources at Vision Express, added: "We extend a warm welcome to the teams and look forward to having them on board, and dedicating our joint focus and commitment to a seamless customer transition and ongoing service experience."

Vision Express has been established in Rotherham for 17 years. It left its Effingham Street branch in Rotherham town centre to take a unit at Parkgate Shopping in 2010.

Last month, Vision Express reported a 6% increase in operating profit in 2012 to £16.4m across its 327 owned and joint venture stores within the UK and Ireland.
