News: LEP to recruit two new business leaders
The expanding Sheffield City Region (SCR) Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is recruiting two new private sector board members following the resignation of Philip Bartey.
LEPs, a collaboration between businesses and the local authorities that are placed at the heart of growth in the regions, are the government's new model to promote economic development. They provide the strategic leadership required to set out local economic priorities, and better reflect the natural economic geography of the areas they serve.
The LEP is looking to recruit two new members from the private sector – ideally a CEO, director or successful entrepreneur working in a sector which is driving the future economic growth of the Sheffield city region. The tenure of all current private sector members have been extended for periods of one year and two years.
James Newman, chairman of the Sheffield City Region LEP, said: "We are looking for new private sector members with the skills, experience and commitment to make strategic decisions which will drive economic growth in the Sheffield city region.
"Board members need strong political and strategic insight and skills, the ability to form and participate in complex networks and the resilience and commitment to drive progress when tough decisions have to be made.
"We would particularly welcome applicants with experience in the finance, investment and property sectors and with strong experience in driving business growth."
The two new vacancies on the Private Sector side of the LEP Board have been made available as a result of Derbyshire Dales joining the LEP, and LEP Board Member Philip Bartey stepping down. Philip Bartey, the chief executive of The Adsetts Partnership Ltd, has asked to step down as a Board member due to his other business commitments.
James Newman said: "I would like to thank Philip for the significant contribution he made to the LEP over the last two and a half years, in particular during the early days of the Board and in establishing and supporting our sector groups.
"Given Philip's wealth of experience and contribution to date, I have asked him to continue in an advisory role to the LEP in the future."
The deadline for applications is Monday 20 May 2013. Applicants are invited to apply through the LEP's dedicated recruitment website www.sheffieldcityregionlep.com
