News: GoTools invests in Rotherham
Thought to be one of very few of its type in the UK, a new Rotherham company, GoTools, has invested £350,000 in state-of-the-art technology to design and manufacture high quality performance tooling for a wide range of manufacturers who appreciate the benefits of high quality tooling delivered on time.
Established as a "sister" of leading zinc diecasting company, PMS Diecasting, GoTools is a precision engineering and toolmaking company equipped with the latest Mazak CNC 3 axis and Hurco 5 axis machines tools, worth £200,000, which cut complex forms to accuracies of less than 10 microns.
Andy Millard, managing director of GoTools (pictured above, right), said: "The aim of the new company is to provide our customers with technical support and encouragement to help them achieve greater productivity and ultimate payback from their tooling investment with improved productivity, whether for new products or replacement tooling."
The 100% employee owned Hellaby firm, has also invested £85,000 in a Nikon 3D Laser Scanner capable of non-contact measuring covering every aspect of the part to 2.5 microns. Scanned tooling inserts can be checked as they are being manufactured and any deviations from the 3D CAD model rectified prior to assembling the tooling which ensures it is correct before sending to the customer for sampling.
Richard Moore, operations director at PMS (pictured above, left), said: "It's like having the tools already sampled before putting them onto the press. You know they are going to work and produce accurate parts. That saves a huge amount of time re-working and re-sampling, so our customers think we are the best!"
Founded in 1975, PMS developed a precision manufacturing process to produce handsaws that proved so successful that every DIY retail outlet and most handtool distributors sold an "own brand" saw which was made and branded by PMS in Rotherham. In just five years PMS became the largest volume manufacturer of handaws in the UK.
One of the best equipped toolmaking business in South Yorkshire, PMS is now one of Europe's leading diecasters and produces more than 36 million castings annually for the global manufacturer, Gripple.
