News: Demand grows for Chamber's export services
Local companies have exported goods to the value of £50m over the last year using export services provided by Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber provides professional advice and certification services to businesses of all sizes and in all sectors. It has gone from strength to strength and continues to see month on month growth in demand from both members and non-members. From April 2012 to the end of March 2013, the Chamber dealt with 130 exporting companies across Barnsley and Rotherham with goods to the value of over £50m, ranging from medical, security and engineering equipment.
The top three destinations for shipments provided with documentation by the Chamber are United Arab Emirates, India and Saudi Arabia, but documents were also provided for exporting to Hong Kong, Israel and Colombia and many more.
Andrew Denniff, executive director of the Chamber, said: "This is fantastic news for the regional economy and proves that although the confidence within the business community to export is very low according to national surveys, the picture in Barnsley and Rotherham at least is a positive one.
"It is of great credit to our export services support team at the Chamber that we have such a successful and growing service designed to make the process of exporting simple and easy for our customers.
"This is a sign that trade and commerce in the region is being underpinned by a successful network of support that enables companies to be confident in the exporting process and encourages international trade which in turn increases revenue, creates wealth and employment opportunities for local people in a multitude of industries. We are hopeful that exports and trade can provide the region and the wider national economy with the catalyst it needs to kick-start growth and confidence to improve."
