News: Rotherham's "Business Lift-off" project

By

Entrepreneurs and new business start-ups can now take advantage of free training and support in Rotherham.

The "Business Lift-off" project, run by Rotherham Council's Investment and Development Office (RiDO), sets out a range of workshops and masterclasses on a number of business topics all designed to help plan, develop and grow your business idea.

Martin Benson, business start-up advisor at RiDO said: "Having a great business idea is just the start of the process. Having the research and planning in place and understanding the financial implications all help to turn a great business idea into a successful venture.

"We want to make sure people are well prepared and have the necessary skills and knowledge to deal with those initial hurdles that can often result in a new venture failing before it even gets off the ground."

The workshops, run by RiDO's experienced business advisors, are held every four weeks in Rotherham town centre with a follow-up specialist masterclass offered in book-keeping, accounting and tax, business planning and marketing. As businesses grow, RiDO can also offer general advice and support around issues such as exporting, finding new premises, funding and recruitment.

Karen Carr, owner of La Bella Lingerie was one such business to benefit from RiDO's start-up training and support. Karen said: "It can be quite overwhelming when you're starting out a new business so to be able to tap into this level of support is a real boost. It was a real help to me in the early days and made me much more confident with my business plans."
