News: Rotherham micropub secures longer opening hours
A pub created in a former farm building in a Rotherham village has secured longer opening hours ahead of a busy Christmas period.
Planning approval was secured in 2022 for Deer Park Tap at Deer Park Farm, a family run business based at Thrybergh that has evolved into a destination which has previously offered bespoke furniture, antiques and a farm shop.
Having earlier been refused planning permission by Rotherham Council, plans were updated to deal with noise concerns raised by nearby residents to the Doncaster Road site.
The planning permission was in effect granted on a temporary basis which was restricted by condition. This condition was later removed under a new planning application in 2024 which effectively granted planning permission for public house on a permanent basis.
The latest application, recently approved, relates to the unauthorised installation of an extractor fan for cooking at the premises, along with variations in opening hours.
Applicant, Shaun Cristinacce, said that having the proposed additional hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays by two hours to 11pm "will support the financial viability of the Deer Park Tap."

To support the growing business at the site, the extended hours will enable the efficient hosting of pub quizzes, darts matches and "small-scale live entertainment acts" on a Saturday.
The application saw three objections and one letter of support.
The Council’s Environmental Health Officer concluded that "Taking into consideration that the premises will only play background music and all drinking activities will be restricted to indoors only after 21:00hrs, it is our opinion that the request to allow the premises to open until 23:00hrs Wednesdays, Saturdays and throughout the Christmas period is reasonable and should not result in adverse impact."
New hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday (including public / bank holidays): 12:00 – 21:00, and Wednesday and Saturday: 12:00 – 23:00.
The operator has previously obtained temporary event notices (TENs) for later hours at Christmas, which includes a ticket only access event on New Year's Eve.
The latest approval secures permanent new operating hours between December 18 and December 30 inclusive, extended to 12:00 – 23:00. And on New Year’s Eve the permitted hours are extended to 12:00 – 01:00 on the next day.
