News: Samuel Hodge acquires Mac'Ants

By

Mac'Ants Abrasives, the supplier of abrasive material used in sandblasting and manufacturing, and based at Dinnington in Rotherham, has been acquired by Sheffield's Samuel Hodge Group.

The origins of Mac'Ants date back to 1973 and the company has diversified to create different types of material, from fused Alumina used to surface finish aerospace castings, to plastic media used as an environmentally acceptable alternative to chemical strippers. The Todwick Road firm is amongst the world's largest plastic media manufacturers supplying products to over 50 countries across the globe.

Headquartered in Orgreave, Sheffield, Samuel Hodge is a privately owned engineering group with operations across the UK and Poland. With a history dating back to 1887, the group’s activities span a diverse range of industrial sectors including aerospace, marine and brewing.

Following the acquisition the enlarged Samuel Hodge Group will employ more than 180 people and have a combined turnover in excess of £25m.

Neal Crisford, managing director at Samuel Hodge, said: "Mac'Ants is a very well respected name in the industry and we are delighted to welcome the team into the Samuel Hodge Group. We share the same ethos of quality and innovation and together Hodge Clemco and Mac'Ants will be able to offer our customers an unparalleled range of equipment and consumables for surface treatment and blast cleaning."

News: Mac'Ants Group take Sage advice

By

Rotherham based manufacturers, the Mac'Ants Group, has installed a powerful Sage 200 suite thanks to Barnsley based technology specialists, Wharncliffe.

The Dinnington firm now has massively enhanced accounting power, giving them a significant boost to their efficiency.

The Mac'Ants Group's core business is the manufacture and sale of abrasives and electrominerals; this is supplemented by divisions specialising in the reclamation and supply of metal abrasives and plastic blast media. Even operating in a recession, the Group sets itself big targets, but their previous accounting system was letting them down.

According to Wharncliffe Director, Alan Exley: "It couldn't cope with most day-to-day processing requirements – the Accounts department had actually resorted to tabulating the information by hand. Added to that, the system was increasingly unreliable – it crashed up to twelve times every day – and had to be laboriously re-booted."

Victoria Imeson, Accounts Office Manager at Mac'Ants says: "Everything is so much easier. Reports are virtually instant, management accounts are all easy to customise. Even the invoice templates are vastly improved. Now we can get the data we need, together with the look we want at the touch of a button."
