News: Rotherham pub given fresh new look

By

Mitchells & Butlers, one of the largest operators of restaurants, pubs and bars in the UK, has delivered an exciting new look and dining experience at a Rotherham pub.

The chain operates around 1,800 largely freehold sites all over the UK with brands such as Toby Carvery, Harvester, and All Bar One and Rothbiz reported last year that a new concept called Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery was set to be trialled at The Drawbridge pub in Kimberworth.

Formerly a Crown Carvery, the pub recently opened to guests on after a two week closure period. Following a significant investment in the restaurant, five new jobs have been created for the local area.

The pub now has a carving deck and pizza oven and serves up from breakfast right through to dinner.

The Drawbridge will now offer guests something for all the family from 100% fresh dough pizzas, burgers and carvery meats with all the trimmings. The new restaurant will also offer pub classics, such as hand battered fish and steak and ale pie.

Adam Mansell, general manager at The Drawbridge (pictured, centre), said: "We're excited about the new changes and are looking forward to welcoming the people of Rotherham to come and see what Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery is all about!

"The restaurant has been given a fantastic new look and a menu that has something for everyone. When you eat with us you can put on the plate exactly what you want, creating your meal, your choice, your way.

"We're a real part of the local community and are looking to support local charities, projects and host a variety of events and activities that everyone can enjoy. When you next pop in to savour a good meal, or spend quality time with family and friends, be sure to ask us about what's coming up!"

With margins adversely impacted by increased costs, most notably from wage inflation, property costs and exchange rate movements, last year Mitchells & Butlers carried out a full review to identify the ideal brand for each site. Since then it has been working towards achieving this profile, aiming to "premiumise" where possible to take advantage of higher growth and more resilient markets, alongside making improvements and shortening the cycle for investing in sites.

In its results for the 28 weeks to April 8, Mitchells & Butlers said like-for-like sales rose 1.6% as increased investment in refurbishing its pubs and restaurants paid off. £93m was invested during the period. Total revenues rose 2.5% to £1.1bn but pre-tax profits fell 9.6% to £75m.

News: Sizzling new look for Rotherham pub

By

Mitchells & Butlers, one of the largest operators of restaurants, pubs and bars in the UK, has revamped one of its Rotherham pubs, creating two new jobs at the King Henry in Bramley.

The Sizzling Pub & Grill opened to guests last month following a two-week closure when refurbishment work was undertaken.

The FTSE250- listed chain operates around 1,800 pubs and bars all over the UK with brands such as Toby Carvery, Harvester, and All Bar One. With the business hit by falling sales and affected by wage inflation following the introduction of the National Living Wage, a plan is underway to "reshape the estate and innovate in both existing and new offers for our guests."

Anthony Roberts, general manager at the King Henry (pictured, right), said: "Bringing the new look Sizzling Pub & Grill to Bramley is really exciting for the whole team. At Sizzling Pub & Grill, we want to offer good value for all our guests and we're thrilled to be providing Bramley with a new restaurant that has great tasting food.

"The pub has been given a fantastic new look showcasing some great products, especially with its existing menu which lets guests experience pub favourites from the UK and around the world.

"We're excited to reveal the new features at The King Henry and we're also thrilled to be able to give back to our loyal regulars, providing them with a fantastic pub where they can always enjoy a warm welcome and great atmosphere."

In 2016, Mitchells & Butlers reported an adjusted operating profit of £318m, slightly down from the £328m in the previous year. Full year like-for-like sales were down 0.8% for the year ending September 24 2016 but in a trading statement covering the 15 weeks ended January 7 2017, the firm reported that like-for-like sales growth for the year-to-date increased to 1.7%.

The plc expects to complete around 300 remodels and conversions this year.

News: Rotherham set for a slice of pub chain's new concept

By

Mitchells & Butlers, one of the largest operators of restaurants, pubs and bars in the UK, looks set to operate one of its newest concepts from a Rotherham pub.

The chain operates around 1,700 restaurants and pubs all over the UK with brands such as Toby Carvery, Harvester, and All Bar One. With the business hit by falling sales and affected by wage inflation following the introduction of the National Living Wage, a plan is underway to "reshape the estate and innovate in both existing and new offers for our guests."

About three-quarters of the company's revenues come from food-led pubs. Like for like sales in the 51 weeks to September 17 2016 fell 0.8%, driven by a 1.4% fall in food sales.

A review of strategic options has been completed and 2015 saw an increase in trial activity with the company revamping the estate and trying out new concepts.

Now, The Drawbridge pub in Kimberworth, Rotherham is in line for an initiative designed to move the company's Crown Carveries business forward - feshly made pizza.

The company explained: "Given the competitive environment, we will increase the level of trial activity that we undertake, and accelerate the rollout of those which are successful. This will help us to improve the return from our existing assets and to exploit further market opportunities through new product development.

"In the last year [2015] we have invested in our Heartland estate with two new concepts: Sizzling Pizza & Carvery provides an innovative solution to move our Crown Carveries business forward; and Sizzling Pub & Grill is an extension of the existing Sizzling Pubs offer. A small number of these formats have been trialled, with results exceeding expectations so far, and we are planning to accelerate the roll-out."

A planning application for new signage shows that the pub on Fellowsfield Way will become a "Stonehouse" Pizza & Carvery.

Pubs operating during the trial saw pizza ovens installed and offered diners a choice of stone-baked pizza as an alternative to the carvery, complete with salad bar and ice cream station.

The concept takes from the Pizza Kitchen & Bar sites operated by the Orchid Group, which Mitchells & Butlers acquired in 2014. It has been rolled out at the company's Sizzling Pubs brand with a number of Crown Carveries pubs also refurbished and rebranded across the UK.
