News: Rotherham to host the best of Yorkshire's advanced engineers

A workshop highlighting UK innovation and aptitude within the advanced engineering sector is taking place on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham later this month.

Organised by UK Trade & Investment and the Yorkshire Gold Business Club, the free workshop takes place on the morning of August 13 at the AMP Technology Centre.

Speakers include Roland Krain, research and development manager at TEKS, the French high tech company based on the AMP that is developing new products and processes for the manufacturing and structural analysis of novel materials.

Also speaking will be AMP-residents, Shirley Harrison, project manager at The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing and Tom Fripp, managing director of Fripp Design.

It follows the Advanced Engineering, Aerospace and Automotive Sector summit at Lancaster House in London that will bring together some 90 or so global business leaders with British-based businesspeople to showcase British excellence through the use of a narrative on the strengths of the sector.

The London event will include a session from experts at Rolls-Royce on how super alloys have developed and helped Rolls-Royce maintain a competitive advantage.

News: Sheffield residents urged to view Waverley proposals

Sheffield City Council are urging Sheffield residents to have their say on one of Rotherham’s biggest restoration projects. The redevelopment of Waverley at the former Orgreave opencast mining site sits on the border of Rotherham and Sheffield. The plans by UK Coal would transform the site, which covers an area bigger than Sheffield city centre, into a high quality residential and employment site. The 20 year scheme is aimed at creating an 9,000-strong community including two schools, shops, bars, restaurants and a stunning waterside frontage onto three man-made lakes. Public open space is also a key feature. A separate planning application by Helical Governetz for a large office development for government workers alongside the Highfield Commercial and Advanced Manufacturing Park is also proposed. Councillor Ian Auckland, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development and Transport at Sheffield City Council said: "Although Rotherham Council is leading on this project, the development sits right on the border with Sheffield. I’d encourage people in Sheffield to take a look at the plans and have their say on this important development for the area."

News: Rotherham Enterprise Park opens for business

Aven Business Park in Maltby, Rotherham has only recently opened and already 4 of the 20 available units are under offer. The high spec light industrial units are available in sizes ranging from 674 to 2,265 sq ft and floor space is flexible to allow for the creation of larger units if business expansion is required.
