News: Second Rotherham outlet for growing chicken brand

Visit Rotherham is reporting that a family run fast-food franchise has opened its second branch in Rotherham.

Rothbiz reported last year that the Wingers brand was opening at the successful Olive Lane scheme on the Waverley development in Rotherham.

Now Visit Rotherham states that Wingers has recently opened at a unit at Manvers, in the north of the borough.

Amran Sunner and his brother Dylan and dad Bill, set about creating their own delicious, fresh fried buttermilk chicken recipe for customers to enjoy and the idea quickly developed wings! They formed Wingers – the Chicken Wing Company – a family run fast-food franchise business creating delicious, fresh fried buttermilk chicken recipes that got Midland folk drooling.

The first restaurant opened in Lichfield, quickly followed by more successes around the Midlands. Recent investments can support up to 75 Wingers franchised restaurants across the UK with the firm hoping to open 50 restaurants by the end of 2027. The company said that the Rotherham opening is "another step towards building a truly national, homegrown UK chicken brand."

The Manvers outlet is at the Onyx Retail Park, taking the 1,250 Sq Ft Unit 1A that was recently home to online designer babywear business, Forever Sewing.

Specialising in "top notch buttermilk fried chicken," the menu includes tenders, wings, wraps, burgers and loaded fries.

A spokesperson for Onward Holdings, the owners of Onyx Retail Park, said: "This addition strengthens the diverse tenant mix at Onyx and is expected to significantly increase footfall, benefiting the entire retail ecosystem at the site.

"Congratulations to the team on a successful launch."

News: Retail offer strengthens in Manvers

Retail developments are keeping the momentum going at the Manvers Waterfront regeneration scheme in Rotherham.

At the Waterfront Business Park, off Manvers Way, developers, QFM Group, has submitted plans for a 446 sq m, two-storey unit for retail use that could contain two class A5/A3 units on the ground floor, with additional seating on the first floor.

The end user is not yet known but it is expected to be another restaurant. If approved, it could created up to 17 full time equivalent jobs.

The site is already home to a large KFC and Costa coffee unit and has planning consent for two A3/A5 retail units within one single storey building with a gross floor area of 155 sq m with 28 parking spaces. The planning consent expires in August 2014.

Sheffield-based QFM, specialise in fast food retail developments. It brought forward the developments at Manvers (pictured) and Canklow and have plans for another outlet at Eastwood.

The Manvers Waterfront development is a 285-acre mixed-use regeneration of the former Manvers Colliery by Anglo-Dutch developers, TCN UK.

The plans for the latest unit state: "The proposal is intended to meet a specific market demand to predominantly serve the new developments which surround it. These include commercial, industrial, retail, leisure and residential land uses. The proposal cannot therefore be disaggregated from the site and there are no sequentially preferable locations that would meet the same requirements that the application is intended to meet."

Also at Manvers Waterfront, Onward Holdings continues to make progress with its Onyx Retail Park development. Phase One is occupied by Greggs the Baker, Domino's Pizza, Subway and Motor World. The second phase of the development was brought forward after the take-up of units in Phase One was much quicker than originally anticipated.

The development has so far led to the creation of around 100 new jobs with grocery giant Spar and Beauty at Heart salon also recently opening. A well-known charity has also signed up at the park.

Home to two restaurants, Thai Garden Café and Bistro 63, recent openings include franchises from YoYo Noodle and Caffè Latte (pictured).

Caffè Latte started in 2008, with a first franchise opening in May 2012 in Ramsgate, Kent. Throughout the past 18 months the company has opened a further six stores nationwide with an expansion plan for 2014 to open a further 20 stores.

Also at Onyx, plans are being determined for Unit 12 to become the Marina fish and chip shop.

News: YoYo Noodle opens in Rotherham

YoYo Noodle has successfully launched its latest oriental fast food outlet at the Onyx Retail Park in Rotherham.

After seeing the growing popularity of takeaway noodles and takeaway boxes from their buffet restaurants, Eric Ho, founder of YoYo Noodle, took the business in a new direction and established a franchise model of noodle bars aimed at students, shoppers and business people who were looking for an alternative option when it comes to eating out.

The East Midlands firm opened its first branch in September 2010, in Nottingham, followed by new outlets in Newcastle, Croydon and Lincoln, all offering over 1,000 unique combinations of fresh, balanced and health-conscious dishes combining a variety of noodles, vegetables and sauces.

The latest outlet is based on Phase Two of the successful retail park which forms part of the Manvers Waterfront development, the 285-acre mixed-use regeneration of the former Manvers Colliery by Anglo-Dutch developers, TCN UK.

Phase One is occupied by Greggs the Baker, Domino's Pizza, Subway and Motor World and in addition, the park is home to two restaurants - Thai Garden Café and Bistro 63.

News: Chip shop wraps up deal at Onyx Retail Park

A fish and chip chain is the latest to sign up at Onyx Retail Park as construction begins on the second phase of the successful development in Manvers, Rotherham.

The retail park, comprising 17,500 sq ft of retail space, is based at the Manvers Waterfront development, the 285-acre mixed-use regeneration of the former Manvers Colliery by Anglo-Dutch developers, TCN UK.

Phase One is occupied by Greggs the Baker, Domino's Pizza and Subway, as well as Motor World, the UK's largest independent car parts and car accessories retailer.

The Greggs outlet was recently named as the joint winner of the retailer's Shop of the Year award.

In addition, the park is home to two restaurants, Thai Garden Café and Bistro 63, both of which helped to host a recent turf cutting ceremony attended by Councillor John Foden, the Mayor of Rotherham and his wife Kath the Mayoress.

Owners, Onward Holdings Ltd, brought forward Phase Two of the development after the take-up of units in Phase One was much quicker than originally anticipated.

Only open 18 months ago, the development has so far led to the creation of around 100 new jobs.

And already 60% of Phase Two is pre-let or under offer with grocery giant Spar, a well-known charity and a renowned fish and chip chain set to join other names on the site.

At the turf cutting ceremony, Neil Storey, director of Onward Holdings, said: "We would like to thank everyone connected with the site and in helping to make the Onyx Retail Park such a success, particularly the early pioneers, who took the decision to locate here during a commercially challenging time. We were delighted at the turn out for the occasion, which reflects the economic boost the site is providing for the local area."

News: Spar sign up at Onyx Retail Park

Global food retail chain, Spar, is to open a convenience store at the Onyx Retail Park in Manvers, Rotherham.

The store has pre-let 4,000 sq ft of space under phase two of the successful scheme with more franchise businesses being targeted by the owners, Onward Holdings Ltd.

The retail park, comprising 17,500 sq ft of retail space, is based at the Manvers Waterfront development, the 285-acre mixed-use regeneration of the former Manvers Colliery by Anglo-Dutch developers, TCN UK.

Phase one is occupied by Domino's, Greggs, Subway, Motorworld and the Thai Garden Café, with one remaining unit under offer.

Hayley Granger, store manager at Subway, said: "We were thrilled about the business opportunities this franchise could provide but the outlet is already much busier than we originally expected."

Jay Ravel, Area Manager for Domino's Pizza who is responsible for five of Domino's establishments in the South Yorkshire area, added: "Head office is continually looking for high impact places and picked Onyx because of its prime location to existing and planned new housing.

"The site ticked all the boxes. Initially we hired 15 people but with the uptake in sales we are now recruiting a further 15 members of staff."

Dean Hughes, investment officer at RiDO, said: "This high quality scheme provides welcome jobs for local people. In the current economic climate successful retail developments like this one are good news for everyone.

"There is free support available to people looking to start up a business in the area and this may include financial incentives depending on the project detail."

The decision by Spar to locate on the Onyx Retail Park has enabled Onward Holdings to bring forward the second phase of the development, comprising 10,000 square feet, which was originally not planned to take place until later in the year.

News: Thai Garden Café to open in Rotherham

The Thai Garden Café is the latest food outlet to take space at the Onyx Retail Park in Manvers, Rotherham.

Only one unit is left in phase 1 of the development by Onward Holdings with Subway, Greggs, Domino's and MotorWorld already signed up.

The retail park, comprising 17,500 sq ft of retail space, is based at the Manvers Waterfront development, the 285-acre mixed-use regeneration of the former Manvers Colliery by Anglo-Dutch developers, TCN UK.

Opening next month, the Thai Garden Café, which has seating for 30 people and space for a further 12 diners outside, will be a "great place to chill out" with a relaxed atmosphere and varied menu. It will be serving oriental dishes using typical Thai ingredients.

The café is owned by Sheffield housebuilder Paul Hague. He said: "Onward Holdings was very helpful during the whole process and the Onyx Retail Park is such an ideal location.

"We are thrilled to be starting out in such a vibrant area. New houses are being built nearby and with visitors to the RSPB's Old Moor nature reserve and other local attractions, we expect to hit the ground running when we open for business."

Plans for phase 2 of the site have now been brought forward to accommodate additional interest from food outlets. This will release an additional 10,000 square feet of space split between two units, however, to allow flexibility Onward has decided to apply for planning permission to enable the units if required to be divided into much smaller shells to accommodate further quick service food stores and or restaurants.

News: ONYX retail development moves to phase two

A new Rotherham retail park has been so successful with the letting of units that its developer, Onward Holdings is speeding up the release of phase two, in a bid to meet enquiries.

ONYX Retail Park, comprising 17,500 sq ft of retail space, is based at the Manvers Waterfront development, the 285-acre mixed-use regeneration of the former Manvers Colliery by Anglo-Dutch developers, TCN UK.

The first phase of the retail park has attracted high street names including Greggs the Bakers, Subway and Domino's. This has created more than 70 new jobs on site. A "continental" café and two other well known high street names are in the process of completing terms.

Phase two of the site comprises a further 10,000 sq ft of space which is split between two units but Onward Holdings has applied for planning permission to allow the units to be divided into smaller spaces.

Neil Storey, director at Onward Holdings, said: "The interest and take up of units has been far higher than expected and those tenants that have moved have reported excellent trading, with one of the units reporting that their turnover has been more than triple what was expected.

"Part of the success seems to be down to the high level of passing vehicle movements and on-going housing developments which has created a ready market that is crying out to be serviced."

Site promotion is being handled by Andrew Miller Chartered Surveyors of Sheffield.
