The ADR accident repair centre in Rotherham has been acquired by AutoRestore Limited as part of a deal to create the second largest vehicle body repair group in the UK, employing over 500 people.

AutoRestore is the sister company of AutoGlass, and part of the global Belron group, the world's largest vehicle glass repair and replacement specialist which operates across 34 countries.

The purchase of the Derbyshire company which provides repair services for cars and vans completed last week with Ian Marwood, Claire Davis, and Krista Fox from Grant Thornton in Sheffield leading a Yorkshire team of advisers which represented the vendors. Legal advisers to the transaction were Nabarro in Sheffield - Jeremy Thompson advised.

Established 30 years ago by Andy Blair, ADR has grown to provide repair services from 11 centres. ADR's original foothold in the Rotherham area was based at Wath-Upon-Dearn but moved to the Tenter Street location in 2003 were the site was purposely designed for vehicle body repair.

Now employing around 60 people, Rotherham is ADR's largest centre, employing quality paint, panel and strip and refit teams, as well as having a "fast track" department.

Andy Blair, managing director of ADR, said: "This is fantastic news for ADR customers and staff. As part of a larger international group serving the automobile market, the company will be in a secure position to take advantage of opportunities to grow and develop.

"Having worked with Grant Thornton over the last four years, the firm has played a key role in our success providing a wide range of services from auditing to tax advice and now corporate finance expertise. Having advisers who really understand our business helped the sales process to run more smoothly."

Claire Davis, associate director at Grant Thornton, added: "Andy started his career as a mechanic and built up the company from scratch – we’re delighted to see his years of hard work realised. This is a mutually beneficial deal with the acquisition of ADR also strengthening Belron's offering by complementing its existing auto businesses."
