News: Xeros officially launches to the world

By

The innovative Xeros clothes cleaning process has been successfully launched to a worldwide audience at the 2013 Clean Show industry conference in New Orleans.

The ultra-low water cleaning system was launched by Xeros Inc, a subsidiary of Xeros Ltd, the Leeds University spin-out, based on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham.

Xeros Ltd has developed the patented system using a unique method of special polymer beads rather than the usual large amounts of fresh water to clean clothes. Instead a small amount of water is added to loosen clothing stains and activate the beads.

The $100 billion global laundry industry is the initial market for the Xeros system and even before the official launch, the system entered the US market.

In 2012 it was chosen by Manchester, New Hampshire's Sterling Linen Services, a high-quality linen processing and rental service for area hotels, hospitals and restaurants. Xeros quickly followed by installing its next system at the Hyatt Regency Reston in Reston, Virginia, which began using Xeros' proprietary bead cleaning solution for its guest rooms and restaurants. Then, in February 2013, the company extended its reach into the North American retail dry cleaning channel with the installation of a third unit at Crest Cleaners in Clifton, Virginia.

The biennial Clean Show was the perfect place for the official launch. It is the industry's largest, most important event, where more than 10,000 serious buyers visited to compare products and make their buying decisions for the coming years.

Bill Westwater, chief executive officer of Xeros Ltd, and his team were at the show to demonstrate first hand how the system uses 70-90% less water than conventional machines.

Earlier this year, Xeros successfully completed a £10m funding round which the company is using to accelerate the roll-out of the commercial laundry cleaning system and finalise the development of a household system to replace conventional washing machines.
