News: Internacionale closes Rotherham store

By

Ladies fashion retailer, Internacionale, has closed its store in Rotherham town centre.

The High Street name has been under the threat of closure before. It filed a second notice of intention to appoint administrators in July 2013 in order to line up a pre-pack deal.

Since filing the intention to appoint administrators, the directors of Internacionale Retail Limited, the operator of 140 stores nationwide including Rotherham town centre, established a new company - Internacionale UK Limited.

The Rotherham branch, based in the former Dorothy Perkins and Burtons unit on College Street, moved across town from the 150,000 sq ft unit now occupied by Home Bargains. The former MK1 branch was handpicked by Internacionale when MK1 went into receivership in 2009.

The 3,000 sq ft unit was empty last week and is currently being advertised for lease by agents, Rees Denton.

Also in the town centre, popular pre-club bar, Tryst appeared closed, with its windows currently boarded up. It follows from new bar, JAXX, and rock bar, SNAFU, opening in new premises in the same Westgate Chambers building.

Recent retail openings in the town centre include Apparel Angels, an expansion of a previously on-line only business into a combined on-line and shop ladies fashion business specialising in plus sizes. Joining Apparel Angels on Corporation Street is Koochie Koo Customization, a new store that provides a wide range of personalised gifts.

Rotherham-based health product retailer and brand Vitalife has also secured a new shop location in Rotherham following the launch of its first store in Sheffield last year.
